just wanted to finally show off my small collection. i love smiths and i love this forum. i don't post too often, but i view almost every day. there seem to be a lot of really good people here. thanks for sharing all your knowledge.
1. 5 screw pre 27
2. 29 mountain gun wearing eagle buffalo horn grips (i like this gun so much that i have a second on the way.) the holsters are a matching set of george lawrence patterned after bill jordans famous holster. the holster in the middle is a simply rugged loaded pancake.
3. my dad's first revolver that turned into my first revolver model 48....with a bianchi holster that has seen just as much use and abuse as the gun.
4. my 460 xvr... i love this gun and can't wait to scope it(hopefully it will help me take a deer this year)
5. my new 632. this gun is the perfect fit. you can't even tell that it is in your pocket, and it's still large enough to be a good defense. i haven't shot it yet, but ammo is on the way. if it shoots as good as it feels, i'll be one happy camper.

Cylinder Turn Ring?

Any idea why all/most revolvers exhibit a "turn ring"?

Seems like something drags when the cylinder indexes?

Seems to me someone would have found a technical cure for that by now, makes revolvers look less like a precision weapon.

Help, I don't understand.

Nice collection. I really like the Pre 27 and the 460. I have been lusting after a .460 for a while now.

my only regret with the 460 was that i bought it without ever even holding or seeing an x-frame in person. i liked the load data, and i spent lots of time watching videos about them and reading articles. i bought the 8 3/8". i wish i would have held out a little longer and bought the bigger barrel, but the money was burning a hole and the smith fever was up. after holding it for the first time i realized that a few more inches wouldn't have made it anything but better. mind you, i love the one i have, but i still lust after the longer barrel.

Cylinder ring comes with the territory. Cylinder stop is the cause and there is really no better way to stop the cylinder or someone would have already come up with one.

Once at the annual SASS "End of Trail" shoot in Ontario, CA I was admiring the action work done by Bob Munden on some Ruger Vaqueros when a fellow came up and asked Bob M. "What do you do to keep from getting a line on the cylinder?"

Munden replied that any revolver you put to use WILL develop a line from the cylinder stop. The fellow appeared to listen to Munden, scratched his head and then asked again "Yeah, but how do you keep from getting that line around the cylinder?

Patiently Bob M. repeated that there was no way to avoid the line on a working revolver... the fellow listened again and then, you guessed it!

Not only is Munden a great gunsmith, but he has superhuman patience and restraint.

BTW all my revolvers have the drag line.
