My 6 yr old Hank and I went fishing today with my brother in law and his two boys. Hank caught the first fish of the day, a 13 inch perch. Its the biggest I've ever seen in person. Just thought I'd share. He was pretty pumped about it and wanted to get it mounted for his bedroom wall. Unfortunately, Uncle Andy filleted it but I got some good pics so I think I'll get a replica made for him. Its his first fish landed so its a big deal to him.

Nothing better than taking a kid fishing! Except maybe taking them shooting! Soon as my granddaughters get a little older I will start over on them, miss taking the kids on outdoor adventures. Enjoy your son!

That is a nice fish! Tell him it is much better off in his belly than on the wall lol I grew up on Lake Erie and have quite the affinity for perch and a good fish fry :)

I had the oddest feeling when my daughter caught her first fish. It was a kind of primitive satisfaction.

My avatar shows my son baiting a hook, maybe 25 years ago.

The best way to mount a fish today is from pics and measurements. I hope he remembers the fillets as long as the mount.

I remember my 3 year old son's first fish. We went to a little pond nearby. I showed him how to put the worm on the hook (he really did it, very proud). Threw it in and within seconds the bobber went down. Out came a 4" bream (sunfish). He grabbed the fish and I took the hook out. He then stuck his thumb in his mouth, sucking away. I asked him what it tasted like. He said... "fish, what you think?"
A great moment in history 32 years ago.

Some of my Favorite Memories of my Dad involve Fishing
and he started me about your sons age

That's a pretty fair-sized yellow perch (we call 'em "redfins" down here. They are awfully boney, but real tasty!
