It was beautiful out yesterday afternoon so my wife went on a bicycle ride. When she reached an intersection a few blocks from the house a car sped up to beat her through the crossing. She had to make a sharp turn to avoid being hit. She lost control of the bicycle and landed on the street. Thank God she wears a bike helmet. My wife was in the bike lane and had the right of way. The moron driver didn't stop but a lady going the opposite direction did stop to help.

When she got home her wrist was beginning to swell and she was in pain. The wrist didn't look straight; it looked broken to me. She said that it was probably just sprained. The pain and swelling continued into the evening and we ended up at the ER. The doctor confirmed that she had broken the large bone in her arm where it attaches to the wrist. They put a splint cast on and put her arm in a sling. She has an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon next week to determine if she will need surgery.

The doc prescribed Tylenol with Codeine for the pain and she gets drowsy and falls asleep after taking it. At least the pain is not as bad. We had planned to go to the Christmas parade tonight on Main Street to join in the festivities but had to skip it. What a crappy way to start the Christmas holidays.

Hope she feels better soon.

Here's the thing about bike crashes: it's not like when you're a kid and "fall off your bike."

Everything is three times as heavy, and three times as fast.

Be careful.

To your wife: Get better soon!

I'm thankful it wasn't worse. Prayers up for quick painless healing. My wife and I still ride our bikes but traffic is at a minimum for us. But, we are still watchful.

Very glad it was no worse. Car vs bike rarely ends well for the bike and rider even if there is no contact. Prepay she recovers fast and true. Hope the driver suffers a major breakdown with their vehicle. Blown engine or tranny will do well.

Ouch, that hurts just reading about it. I hope she soon heals well and completely.

I long ago gave up bicycle riding on the streets in the USA, after consistently having issues with auto drivers that are jerks.

Does the intersection have traffic light TV cameras? Perhaps there is a record of the event stored on the camera system? Maybe the license of the car which caused her fall can be obtained from the TV?

Hope your wife recovers quickly.

I respect bike riders on the road.

I only wish THEY followed the rules as well.

Many a time I see them disregard lights and sign etc.

Bike lane or not they are still required to obey the signs IF on the street.

Most seem to think THEY are exempt.

@ Jinglebob.

I wish your a wife a speedy and full recovery.

You know what I wish for the driver who caused the accident and fled. But I am not going to write it down.

There is this "little" thing called "Karma". And there is a saying in my Country.

"God never sleeps"

Jinglebob, I'm sorry to hear about your wife, and glad that she was not hurt any worst, (not to downplay her injuries.) As a FORMER casual bicycle rider, I'm all too aware that many drivers just don't see us. So, bikers need to expect the unexpected in traffic. Bike riders also need to remember all the rules of the road.
Wishing your wife a full and speedy recovery, and a blessed Holiday Season.
