I purchased a good condition shooter 25-5, and upon full teardown for cleaning found that the crane notch has been worn a good bit by the front frame screw. Any options besides either leavng it as is or replacing? does S&W still work on these for reasonable rates? thanks in advance.

The notch is usually a lot harder than the screw, which is hand fitted. You can get a new screw from places like Brownells, and maybe even the factory. Are you sure the notch is what is worn? The screw should wear off on the end long before the notch gets wollowed out.

If it is the notch, you should be able to wiggle the whole crane/cylinder assembly back and forth in the frame, from front to rear. A new screw may still take up some of that slack when fitted properly.
