The Corpus Christi Navy Flying Training folks deploy to Las Cruces, NM for some winter time good flying weather.
Couple years ago I was down that way and staying in the same hotel as the deployed flyers. And it was wintertime. It Don't get real cold in Las Cruces but it gets cold enough to need a jacket.
Early one morning I walked into the motel breakfast area. I See a number of guys in flying suits eating breakfast.
Only one of these guys was wearing a jacket. So I say to him, how come you are the only guy wearing a jacket?
He says, I am a Marine. The rest of these guys are Navy. Marines are always prepared and equipped for any situation. You can't really say that about the Navy. He went on to say- Quite a bit of the time us Marines have to take care of the Navy.
All I could think was - WOW! You Navy guys are lucky to have These Marines around.

About 1965, if my old memory is even close, I was at England Air Force Base in La with a task force group from each of the services to work with Air Commandos on close air support. Apparently the Air Force General Le May was ticked-off about the quality of close air support being provided to troops in Viet Nam. After the first day's efforts by each service, Lemay shows up on the flight line in his tricked out WW II bomber and commences to ream the troops over their failure to get on the ground with their runs. The Marines were flying Phantoms, the next flight, they returned to the line with pine limbs stuck in their tailhooks. Any lower was not an option, those dudes are serious warriors. As a Seabee, I've had ample opportunity to spend quality time with my Marine brothers, always hardcore and professional.

Did the low flying improve the ordnance delivery accuracy?
CAS is all about accurate ordnance delivery on the enemy with friendlies nearby.
Back back when, we had an Army guy stationed at a Nellis AFB, NV.
He taught Army stuff in several courses of including a CAS basic course.
He liked to say, I know quite a bit of about tactical air power. I have been attacked by it in three wars- WWII, Korea and Vietnam.
All three times it was friendly air power that attacked me.

I had a former Marine and a former Navy Seal on my shift. When they were not "Taking Care Of Business" these two were taking jabs at each other. The one jab that the Navy Seal told the Marine (and I left the room) was "Do you know why the Navy has Marines on board their ships?? cause sheep would be too obvious". Having these two Officers on my shift made supervising easy, especially when a citizen wanted to fight/resist arrest.

Sorry, not a sub thread but I can't resist.

The only thing I will say is that the parts of the Nam I was operating in I never saw any "Navy" guys. Unless you count those A-6 pilots that bailed my butt out more than once. :)

Also, I had a real affinity for a couple of USAF Birds, call signs "Puff The Magic Dragon" and "Spooky". Lord, how the gooks would run whenever Spooky showed up. :)

Also really liked those big guns on the New Jersey. Called in a few fire missions to them. They could put those big azz rounds right in your shirt pocket.
