Need .22 semi-auto recommendations

Ruger Mk 11 and old browning Challenger.
Being an old timer,if for myself I'd look into a good used Hi Standard or S&W 41
The High Standards are going out at a low price these days, younguns rather buying black rubber gripped plastic guns.!

Got a HS HD Military. I can't remember what I paid for it, but I don't remember it being cheap.

I've got no experience with the Browning Buckmark, but a lot of folks here seem to think highly of them. However, I own and would recommend the Ruger Mk4 Target with the following caveats:

Pros: moderately priced; accurate; easy to take down & clean; many after-market options for grips, sights & magazines.

Cons: requires Volquartsen (or TandemKross) trigger upgrade for match accuracy; requires replacement of firing pin (Mk2, VQ or TK recommended) to eliminate probable firing pin breakage; some people have reported loosening of the barrel-to-frame pivot requiring replacement of the original flexible grommet/buffer.

I would recommend also the Ruger Mk2's but they're a pita (...in my opinion) for reassembly after cleaning. Most owners, however, eventually get over this annoyance and regard them as superior in many ways to the Mk4's and Mk3's.

I got over it but it isn't for the new troop. That reminds me, I need to clean mine. I put it off because I can't remember exactly how I'm supposed to hold my mouth to reassemble it. I always have to watch the video. But then I'm 70 years old and I sometimes forget my doctor appointments. A finer 22 target pistol hasn't been made yet. People will still be admiring that pistol in 2049, 100 years from its inception.:D

When I bought a .22 pistol a few (3) years back I looked at the Buckmark first thing because of prior experience with them.
Maybe, hopefully, the example I examined was an outlier but it was a gritty ***.

A female friend of mine is looking for a semi-auto, in .22LR. This would mostly be a plinking/range (out to 10 yards) gun. Everyone has warned us to stay away from the Walther, but other than that, there are a bunch of choices out there. My range does rent guns, but I'd like to narrow down the list of possible guns. $10 a range gun can get spendy, if we try to shoot everything they have. She had a Beretta 71, which was just about perfect, for her, but she had to give it back to her Dad. Eventually, she'll end up with it, so she doesn't want to "duplicate" that gun. She had no problem racking the slide, on that one, and I enjoyed its ease of field stripping, for cleaning purposes.
Looking for something similar. What do you guys and gals recommend?
Thanks,
George

Lots of choices! You never said how much you wanted to spend! DON"T go by who is selling them, go by who is actually
making them.

Let me clear up the Walther comment on the .22 1911 series

Colt Gov model .22 series are now being made by Walther in Germany and very well made! If you watch videos on this weapon make sure your watching the new ones not ones from 6 or 8 years ago. That being said I have the rail model and it has performed flawlessly. These can be purchased for under $400.00.

I have a M-41, that's not a pistol you just want to shoot at close range. $900.00 to $1,400

Grand Power K-22, Excellent pistol, if you can find one.

The next .22 I will purchase..

The Sig Sauer 226BR-22-BAS-SAO

If you get the Sig .22 you can later buy a 9mm slide for it and it is cheaper to buy the .22 first then to buy the (9mm then buy the .22 slide

Everything in both weapons are the same except for the slide of course. Under $600.00

One important point to consider, Buy a .22 that you can HOLSTER!!!!!!!

I own a 2013 Walther PPK/S .22 that has been great, but Walther makes a lot of .22 pistols, including licensed replicas of the 1911.

That being said, most of the negative comments regarding Walther's .22 pistols include dated references to Gen 1 P22 slide failures. Rest assured, Walther has greatly beefed up the slide since Gen 1, I don't believe that they're even using the same alloy anymore, (supposedly they've switched to something stronger) and from what I've seen, all cases in which the P22's slide cracked or pieces blew off were the result of a catastrophic case blowout which would have damaged the slide regardless of its composition because obviously firearms manufactures don't tend to build their slides to withstand case blowouts.

3 different salesmen at 2 different stores said the Walther P22 was prone to jamming. I have no personal experience, with any Walther model.
Thanks for the suggestions, and keep 'em coming!

The Mark IV is a great choice! Regarding other items in the thread; I wonder if they confused the Walther with the SIG Mosquito? My brother has one that's a jammomatic and that's not the only one I know of like that. And to add to other posts; my and my other brother's Ruger SR22s have been very serviceable and I've heard good things about the S&W M&P 22 Compact and probably would have had one if I didn't already have the Ruger when the Compact came out. There are many great options and each fit every person just a little differently. For anyone else trying to decide, spending $10 to rent your top options might save you money in the long run.

Ruger MkIII 5.5 target stainless two magazines box and paperwork. NOS would be an excellent choice for her . If you need help in finding one, PM me and I'll tell you where you could look and give you an idea of what one might cost-including shipping . I've never had an issue taking the I, II or III down. I'm not really that enamored with the Mk IV other than the new safety design. If I but another Ruger semi auto 22 it is gonna be a 45/22 with a threaded barrel for a suppressor

Got a HS HD Military. I can't remember what I paid for it, but I don't remember it being cheap.

Before I bought a M41 I used my HD Military for bullseye shooting. When I got it it came with an extra set of genuine stag grips, several magazines and a tooled holster. Paid 40 bucks for the lot.

My old gun show Buddy who moved to Kentucky has a few Walther p22's for Him, the Wife and Grandkids and has no problems whatever. I don't think He paid over $250 for any of them. The Buckmark is a good one as is the Ruger.

That's quite a deal! HOW long ago was that?
