Need advice on a new .45 acp

I had a Glock 17; loved it. Figured if a 9mm is good, a 45 is better, so got a Glock 21. It was too big for my medium sized paws, and the more I shot it the more uncomfortable it felt. I understand there are enough people like me that Glock has come out with a modified grip for the 21, I forget what they call it, but there's less of a reach to the trigger. I've got to try one of those, as I like the 45 round and like the Glock gun but didn't like the combination I tried.

Just an update, Its now between the Springfield XD and the Glock. Its about mag capacity and price right now. Once Ive handled the XD Ill make up my mind. Thanks for all the input

Aw heck . . . you KNOW you want a Glock . . . everyone needs to go to a Tupperware party at least once!

Get the Glock . . . it is the 21st centuries' 1911.

Then, if you have a big hand, you might even like it for a while. If your hands ain't as large, you'll eventually gravitate to an XD . . . or discover you don't really need to pack around all that weight and Rambo-like amount of ammo.

Later on you might even discover just how smooth, accurate and wonderful the S&W 625 is! (hint, hint, hint).

In any event, you probably can't make a mistake on any of them you've considered. I call it going on a "gun safari" and all of us here are either ON that safari, or have had quite a long one already!

It's fun . . . and you can always trade off or sell those guns you lose enthusiasm for after a while. Ya never really know what you are gonna like if you don't shoot a lot of guns anyway.

Springfield's Mil Spec is a darn good pistol 1911 for the money. Well made good steel (Made in Argentina) and gunsmiths like them enough they will do a enhancement if needed or better yet wanted. They shoot fine and at 500 a good buy IMO

Have a look at a Dan Wesson (CZ) Bobtail Commander. I have one and have now ordered another. They are about a grand at Budsguns in Kentucky. Stainless, Bobtail nice for CC, Night Sights, has Ed Brown parts besides the bobtail.

Although it's price exceeds your budget by around $250, I really like my HK 45. Available in full size, or compact.

+1

I have both (HK45 & HK45C) and both are reliable and accurate pistols.

The grip angle is the same as a 1911, can carry ‘em cocked & locked, larger magazine capacity, polygonal barrel, tactical rail, recoil reduction system, can load with +p or +p+ rounds, de-cock feature and lightweight to name just a few of the features.

I like the 1911’s and own several, but the HK45C accompanies me more often than any of my 1911’s when I leave the homestead.

This is the S&W Forum

Stop the heresy, dump the plastic, and forget the Glock flock. Buy a S&W 1911, blue or stainless, fixed sights or adjustable. Remember, Steel is Real, and Stainless is Real Steel.

1911's -- which one: S&W, ParaOrdnance, Kimber, Colt, Springfield, Chip McCormick, and Caspian. The S&W has the BEST curb appeal.
