Need advice on a new squirrel killer

About 6 years ago my parents had an awful problem with chipmunks and red squirrels, so I set up birdseed pile on an old stump about 25 yards away. There were neighbors on both sides, including the town's buildings and codes officer. I had an old Remington single shot with a scope on it that I loaded with CCI .22 Lr standard velocity rounds. That gun was just as quiet as a BB gun. I killed well over 50 of those little buggers all summer long, no one ever knew or even suspected.

One summer, my yard was plagued with armadillos. Unfortunately, I have neighbors that are LEOs, and I didn't want to put them in a position of having to look (or not listen) when I dealt with the pests with my trusty .22. Instead, an RWS 34 with steel tipped pellets, and a baseball bat proved to be strong medicine against the scourges of my yard. I see where they now make a polymer tipped pellet for deep penetration, and a better kill, which I'll keep in mind for the future.

You can do away with noise and ammo expenses at the same time by taking the counterintuitive approach. Start setting out trays of sunflower seeds -- I mean, HUGE dishes. Buy the seeds in 40-pound bags. Your squirrel population will undergo a fast explosion, then an even faster contraction when the red-tail and red-shoulder hawks catch on. Three or four of those guys can clean out a bank full of squirrels faster than you can imagine. And a world in which the apex predator is a bird of prey rather than your neighbor's bored housecat is a much healthier world. No lead poisoning! Green rodent control! What's not to like?

Checked the scope on my father Browning 22 other year and dead on using Anguila Colibri. Gave him a fresh box. At the end of season he had dropped 44 out of 50 rounds in his yard inside the city limits. Then again rual Mississippi LEO is a little more understanding

Try a 5mm Sheridan Blue Streak. It's old-school, but it hits small animals like a 338.

If you want to avoid potential problems with the neighbors altogether, the "tube trap" baited with peanut butter will handle those squirrels pronto. I had a problem with some squirrels that found a way into our attic and so I ordered one of these traps. It took care of the problem in three days. I highly recommend it.

+1 - I use this ammo on squirrels out of my Browning BL22 lever action with 4X Bushnell scope. They won't cycle a semi auto, but do fine in lever, bolt, or pump guns.

I love my tree rats(they dont do damage here),but for other vermin I use a Beeman R10 20cal or any of my long barrled 22's wheelguns with Super Colobri or a Marlin 39 with 22 Long CB's....all of these make little noise. Even my old Crossman pump pistol will take out a rat sized(or crow)

if I was shooting upwards(and had folks close by) I would only use an air rifle

Try to set a bird feeder on a pole they can't climb under a tree branch but far enough away they cant jump from the trunk. Now put a couple #2 or 3 leg hold traps on the top of the bird feeder,they will try to jump from the branch on to the feeder and you can probably guess the rest.

You asked for a repeating pellet rifle and none of those recommended are repeaters. I wanted the same thing because a single shot is not much fun or useful to me. I bought a S&W 6" 586 CO2 pellet pistol and have five 10 shot magazines, and it is plenty powerful and accurate and a heck of a lot of fun. I can go through over 50 pellets before its time to change cylinders, and I've used it on frogs, snakes, squirrels, birds, and several other things I can't remember, but I don't know of any magazine fed repeating air rifles to recommend. If you find one let me know.

Last year I had a pesky red squirrel build a nest on the outside roof area of my gazebo roof. I sprayed the squirrel with "Hornet & Wasp" spray (shoots 20')and got the squirrel pretty good in the eyes. Critter never returned and left the 2 baby squirrels in the nest to die.

Works on bats in eaves and roof soffits too.

You can purchase this spray at Wal-Mart, Home Depot etc...$3 a can...I keep several cans.

Wear glasses or sunglasses when using.

Don't recall seeing repeater listed as a requirement in the OP. With my Whisper and the Gamo "Armor" pellets at 1200 fps I don't need a follow up shot.

If you're live trapping, it should be noted that relocating the varmints is not legal in many areas. And if you're dumping them in my neighborhood...
