need assistance with M&P15 22 stock

Not really sure why its loose like that. You bought it brand new? If so I'd take it back to where you purchased it and see if they can either adjust it for you or exchange it.
 
Well I am glad you took my advice on youtube and came to this forum for help. The people here will go out of their way to help you find an answer, and as far as you not having alot of experience.. here it doesnt matter. As every one is treated as a equal. Thats why I LOVE this site!
 
When you look at the "knob" from the bottom you should see a slotted screw that is nearly flush with the face of the knob. It appears from your video that the knob is probably OK. There is supposed to be definite spring tension when you push on the lever to pull the adjustment stop out of a hole in the stock tube so you can slide the stock to a different position. From the video, you don't have any spring tension. The spring may be missing or broken. I have never heard of this problem before. Hopefully Brett has a solution.

If the spring was missing or otherwise not working the stock position pin would fall free and wouldn't lock into position.

Something I noticed was the hole on TOP of the stock (the charging handle would pull out and cover it if the stock were fully collapsed). That makes me wonder if he's got a pinned stock from a ban state. I can also see a roll pin (close to) where one would be to lock the stock in place. I'm not familiar with the 15-22's specific stock since mine came with the MOE, however.

Evan, can you pull the knob down at all like the lever would if it was engaging correctly? If so, can you then slide the stock?
 
My 15 22 came with this exact stock. I just looked at it and it does not have that tiny pinhole in the slot directly above the pin that this stock has. BUT it DOES have the same hole at the top of the stock itself. My factory stock moves just fine, well untill tomorrow when my Dark earth MOE gets here lol. I can however say that at the 1:36 mark of this video the "lil round thing" as he calls it is not at the top of the pin, but directly in the center on my stock. And can be seen through perfectly fine to what ever is on the other side of it.

Looking closely at this one in the video, and comparing it to mine, the end of the locking pin in his stock is VERY loose, and should be further up. But this one has fallen down to where the hole( inside pin) is not centered, thus giving the inabilty to move the locking pin. The bottom of the pin hangs down, where as it SHOULD fit perectly snug and the little screw top inside and it should fit evenly flush with it to make one totaly flat surface.( and the see through hole SHOULD be in the dead center of the locking pin). Not hang as it does.

Seeing how the reason it wont move is basicly the locking pins head has slipped down further than it should be. Have you tried to just push the locking pins head back onto the pin where it should be?( A.K.A light taps with a hammer) Now keep in mind im NOT telling you to beat the thing to death, or for that matter to do it at all. Im just saying if it were mine, Id at least try it. But do as you see fit. If it does slide back into place where it belongs that should fix the stock issues you are having. I dont know WHY I didnt think to compare your stock to mine last week, when I pointed you toward this forum on your youtube video/private message . Hope I have shed some type of light on your situation.

Sory for making apost directly after my last one, But I figured Id ask to see if you happened to solve this issue as you posted this thread nearly 4 days ago, and havent posted in it after that. Hopefully you got some type of info that helped you out.
 
1. Remove the roll pin in the adjuster pin -- that goes thru the lever.
2. Tighten the screw runnng thru the center of the bottom until the adjuster contacts the bottom of the stock.

Should work. Replace the pin.

Legality depends on where you are and what the laws are. I can un-pin any stock from any of the Occupied States here in Ohio. I've no clue if I can to that in New York.

I feel responsible for this thread, as I found the person that started this thread on youtube. I watched his video and pointed him to this site. Knowing that he could get answers to his problem. So he joins, posts his problem.. and never returns. I hate when that happens.
 
hey guys im really sorry about being gone for that long period of time, i've just been real busy with school and work and i havent had much time to get on here and tinker around with the gun that much.

but as far as the problem goes i've tried to do a lot of the recommendations on here with no joy. if i use pliers the knob can be pulled down as far as it will allow, but still wouldnt slide back and forth.

the idea of it being "locked" in this position for legal reasons is kinda starting to make sense, i do live in california so i can see why it would, but i plan on taking it to a gun shop pretty soon to have them take a look at it.
thank you guys for all of your input your all very kind and helpful here and i really appreciate it, and once again i apologize for being gone and no replying back to your posts.
