I have asked Smith and Wesson for them to make a conversation kit to make my S&W MP15 NYS Complaint. Under King Cuomo's new Safe Act! They could do so by making a lower with a fixed magazine like Ruger has on its MK77. I love this gun for coyote hunting . I can give up the magazine feature. The stock and the hand grip should stay the same. I do not want to register and also still have the ability to hand it down to relatives! I have asked several times I get nowhere!

Hey! From what I understand of the law, you have 3 basic choices: Register, remove all evil features, or install a kit that fixes your 10-round mag permanently (permanent meaning that you would need tools to remove it).

The third choice is nice because it is legal and reversable. It makes the AR into a top loader and allows you to keep all of the evil features (threading, muzzle brake, bayonet lug, pistol grip, telescopic stock). It's similar to how the SKS is legal- fixed mag.

Looking at dealers on sites like Armslist, you can see dealers selling two types of ARs: ARs with no illegal features (modified stocks and such), but a detatchable mag; and ARs with a fixed mag and all of the standard features.

I hope this helps.

So, to reiterate, you need a fixed-mag kit. They're out there. S&W doesn't make one (as far as I know).

I'm pretty sure the "yes or no" option is taken to mean yes and that's how I voted. Can you fix it? Not sure if anyone would vote no but you never know.

My gun shop (In NYS) said they are starting to get AR's in now with the "Spur" grip on them. Apparently there has been at least a verbal ok from the state police. I've seen these and fixed magazine AR's for sale at gun shows.

IF and that's a big if, S&W does anything to sell their AR's in NYS, it will probably put the Spur grip on, it's the easiest thing to do to make it legal and they do look semi-cool while retaining the ability to use magazines.

I don't know if I would accept an Okay from the State Police. I would rather the State legislature tell you that. The police can only enforce the law, not make them.

I wonder if one of these would be NYs compliant:

FRS-15 RIFLE STOCK

I know some people in California who use this. It looks much more comfortable to use than a chopped grip spur.

I'm just sure about those, might be legal but I just think they are ugly.

OP: If you have a 16" threaded barrel, replace it with a non threaded, fixed mag and they will still come up with a reason why it is not legal. "ALL FOR PUBLIC SAFETY" , sure and I have a bridge for sale. Good luck, Be Safe,

I don't think its fair to ask a firearms manufacturer to keep up with New Yorks bs laws. They've produced a lot of compliant models already to help those in anti-2A states. At some point enough is enough. Its not worth the time or money to design something that'll probably be illegal before it leaves the drawing board.

That's why there is an aftermarket to go and jack up ARs to make them state compliant. S&W can't go invest more resources on making them compliant to a law that will probably just get stricter if they see that manufacturers have found ways around it. Doesn't make business sense.

I think something needs to be said for personal accountability. You can't just expect a firearms company to alter an AR15 beyond recognition to get you a NYS compliant rifle just because you "ask several times". It's up to you to make your modifications and get yourself a legal gun.

And at this point if you live in the occupied zone, why even have such a neutered AR15? I think it would be bad for the rest of the country if S&W did as you ask - it adds legitimacy to such ridiculous restrictions and gives ammo (so to speak) to gun control groups.

NY is a bit like Ca. The only conversion kit the state cares about is if you take your rifle and throw it under the treads of an excavator.......:(

Can you permanently affix the magazine yourself to make it GTG? It would be easy enough; install a magazine, and then mix up some 2 part epoxy. Work it down into the magazine chamber, and after maybe 2 or 3 passes, the magazine would be in there, pretty much forever. Certainly would not be easily removable with any given tool.

Or, buy a chunk in the Adirondacks and the rifle can have a happy little place to call home, all by itself away from the noise of the big city.......

Has anyone purchased and installed the FRS15 Rifle Stock on an M&P 15 Sport? I am interestedto hear if so.
