I recently purchased a really nice little Remington bolt action .22 model 581 LH at a yard sale. I am using it to eradicate rock squirrels in my wall out back. It came with an old Weaver scope on it. I am looking for a really good .22 scope. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

I agree with m1gunner, Leupold's Rimfires are great scopes for a 22. I use Leupold Rimfire scopes on all my 22 rifles.

On the advice of a friend, I bought a BSA Sweet 22 scope for my Winchester 52B. They are not expensive and I've been happy with it for a couple of years now. The range adjustment is accurate and handy. You might give these a look.

Stick with the Leupold, they have a lifetime warranty and are made in the USA.

Get a "Leuie" and be done with it. The rimfire series are really not that expensive......Its also a scope that I would be proud to pass on down the line in my family !!! I have been shooting for 40+ years....have used & owned about all there is..........Nowdays ALL my scopes are Leupold

Get one of the Leupolds shown in the previous links. I put their 2-7x on my Remington model 34 and it is REALLY nice. Couldn't be happier - you will not regret spending the extra $ on a Leupold. It made a believer out of me and I bought another Leupold for my 7mm Mag.

Sorry but Leupold .22 scopes are over rated and too expensive. Check out the Nikon or the Weaver variable .22 scope. I had a Leupold on my Kimber. Optically it was not very sharp and it darned near took a wrench to change the magnification. I now have a Weaver and a Bushnell 3200 on my .22s. Love 'em both, though the Bushnell was expensive.

Kinda odd that the "overrated" Leupolds pretty dominate benchrest. Including the ones I used on my winning match rifles

That would be relevant if their .22 scopes are used for benchrest. I don't know many benchrest shooters who use 7 power scopes. ;)

In my experience, Leupold has the best, no quibble warranty in the scope business. Like many, I have a box full of cheaper scopes that cost more to repair than they sold for new, no lifetime warranty on those.

With the fully transferable warranty on the Leupold, if you get one and don't like it, the resale value is near retail value.

Ron J........In Rimfire "sporter" class scope power is limited to 6x, The same with Centerfire in HBR. Regards Ernie

OK, my bad! But do serious shooters use 2-7 variable rimfire scopes? Which specific scope do you use for sporter class?

In any case I stand by my original statement. I have owned 3 Leupolds. One on a Anschutz 54 sporter, one on a KoO Kimber 82 and a third on a Weatherby MK 22. None of the three equals the little Weaver v7 I currently use on the Weatherby.

I was thinking of re-scoping my Marlin60 when I saw this thread.

Anything that anyone would recommend for under $100 (I am not going to pay twice what the gun is worth for a fixed 4x scope). Of all the recommendations made here, only the BSA might qualify.
