I need help in valuing two unusual Smith auto pistols that I have had in my safe for quite a while. One is the Model 4006 Performance Center Limited Edition in .40 S&W with 5 inch barrel, SS finish, target sights, funnel magwell, etc. The other is a Model 3566 in SS and .356TSW with 500+ rounds of new Federal Ammo. Advice would be welcome. Both as new, and am no longer able to shoot due to serious medical issues. Want to send these to a good home but at a fair price to someone who knows what they are. My gun pals don't have a clue.

Optimist, is the 3566 the compact model (3.5" barrel) or the Limited model with the 5" barrel and adjustable sights? (I'm also assuming it's not the SD 356 TSW with the 4 1/4" barrel, a Lew Horton special production run and marked as such on the right side of the slide.) Will make a difference.

The 500 rounds of Federal ammo (assuming it's full metal jacket target stock) will go for up to $500 for the lot if you're selling it separately from the pistol, in my opinion as an owner of a 3566 compact. Selling it with the pistol, you might get about the same price but either pistol by itself is going to be over $1000 anyway, so adding the ammo at a good price-per-round would be a good incentive, and since you presumably bought the ammo originally for under .30 per round you're still making a good profit.

JMHO :) on all of this.

Good point, but these two pistols aren't sold very often, and GB's completed auctions only go back 120 days or so. Optimist won't find much help there on these particular models.

Thanks, guys. Been a bit sick for a couple of days. Will write more soon.

3566 in .356TSW

Mine is 5 inch with adjustable sights. Limited edition.

Sorry to hear you've been under the weather, Optimist.

Your 3566 Limited, if it's unfired and has the PC box, papers, and mags as new, is worth around $1,300. A gun shop in Georgia that came into some NIB 3566 Limiteds and Compacts, offered the Limiteds at that price a few months ago and I believe he sold them. They would probably be worth more except the 356TSW round is no longer produced, though finding the ammo is not hard to find for buyers looking to get a few boxes here and there for around $1 a round.

It's a beautiful pistol and wonderfully accurate, having been designed for competition in the early 90s.

.356 TSW

Getting old sucks. My memory isn't as good as I thought. In fact, I got the pistol out of the safe and it is a SD 356 TSW with a 4.25 inch barrel, not the 5 inches. I am getting a handle on this now and may elect to keep the gun since I have so much new, boxed, Federal ammo. The 4006 is the PC Limited Edition gun with 5 inch barrel. I got a bit confused working from memory. Will probably sell the 4006, keep the 356.
