Need help - Wife needs DA/SA CCW

Technically the M&P compacts are a double action trigger as the striker needs to fully set before it fires.

Trigger pull is around 6lbs, and easily brought down if necessary. I don't like a really light trigger in a carry piece.

M&Pc can use full size mags for range use. They are really nice guns with a lifetime warranty, and cheap to boot.

For a traditional double action, you may be hard pressed to find a better 9mm than the 3913. ;)

When I worked in a LGS for a while. I sold the heck out of Beretta Tomcats to Women. Yes, bo hoo the 32 ACP but it was good enough for Bond, James Bond.:)

No racking of the slide, easy to shoot and control, they are not a scared of it,;)

Didn't Bond carried a Walther PPK in .380? Fifty years ago when I read the books, I recall 007 getting a bunch of flack from his superiors because he wouldn't carry the standard 9mm? It's been a loooong time since I read From Russia With Love and Dr. No.

Everybody thinks it was a 380, but I do believe it was a 32. He actually had a lot of guns even a 25 Auto

Mine started out with the P232
P232
Then decided she wanted a 9mm and went with a P239 . she does love both guns but does not like how expensive .380 ammo is

Just read through this:
List of James Bond firearms - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Interesting info, shows the Beretta 418 in .25acp as the pistol he relinquished to 'Q' in the novel 'From Russia With Love'. And then the Walther PPK in 7.65mm as his new carry. From what I gleaned from Wiki, the .380 doesn't appear until 2012 in Skyfall chambered in a Walther PPK/S. Also didn't know about all the authors that have tried to succeed Fleming writing the Bond novels.

Sorry for the hijack....

We've figured out that the long DA trigger pull on most carry-style pistols is a problem for my wife. I've had her dry firing a Model 15 on DA to get a better feel for it, but she would feel more comfortable knowing that at least the second shot would be SA. So what is out there that either has an external hammer or is SA on the second and consecutive trigger pulls? Compact/Sub-Compact size, .380/9MM? Doesn't have to be a S&W:eek: but she does like S&Ws and Walthers.

Wife needs a Glock G26 or G19 9mm. There is no "DA/SA" issue to worry about...you insert a magazine, rack the slide and the gun is "hot" but for a factory 5.5 lb trigger pull. Carry it in a solution that covers the trigger opening and it's completely fool proof yet comes out ready to fire...not fumbling with safeties, long, heavy triggers to short light triggers...and in the case of the G19, 16 shots of +P+ 9mm 115 grain delivering 500 lb-ft of kinetic energy versus any piddling five-shot revolver dripping out .38 spl rounds at maybe 250 lb-ft per.

Remember the woman in Georgia? The one the *** chased around the house until she unloaded her five shot revolver into his face...MISSING most of the shots of course...the b@$t@rd ain't dead, she should have had a G-19. Your wife should too!

Yes Bond carried a "Beretta Belle" .25 ACP and was forced by "M" to accept the Walther PPK 7.65mm "with a delivery like a brick through a plate glass window."

Europeans have always had a different view of defensive caliber needs.

Actually I really LIKE the Beretta Tomcat .32. It's a bit bulky with the added slide thickness, and it's heavy by modern standards at 14.5 ounces empty...about a pound fully loaded. On the other hand mine has never missed a beat right from the box...100% reliable, VERY accurate, and the abiliy to carry it cocked, safety on makes it a useful choice for anyone willing to practice with it enough to develop the muscle memory to snick the safety off under stress. Because it is also double action, if a woman has the hand strength - especially during an encounter, the gun is capable of a DA first shot.
The pop-up slide is also "female friendly" since the slide does not have to be racked.
As for power there are European loads that deliver in excess of 200 lb-ft of KE which is on par with the .380.

The Kahr P380 is also a very nice choice...polymer frame, less than 10 ounces empty, DA ONLY trigger pull that is amazingly light and short.
The only thing with Kahr is they need to be seriously broken in with a LOT of rounds! I have a P380 that is wonderful to carry but is only just becoming reliable after 200 rounds...

She might consider the M&P 9C. My wife Luscious tried a half-dozen pistols before she settled on hers and now never leaves home without it!

It would be ideal if you had a nearby range that would rent guns for her to try. Only she can make the proper choice, for her. And knowledge is power.
