There are so many optics out there I have no clue where to start! I know I want something that will allow quick target acquisition and possibly slight magnification. I want to spend $150-250 on it. Most important is reliability! Any input would be great!

I shot a Bushnell 1x red dot last weekend on an M&P15T, I was really surprised at how well it worked and I was able to hit 10" and 12" gongs out to 300 yards really well. I know it is not the most expensive but for a good solid red dot it worked really well with quick sight alignment and it also co-witnessed well. Myself I prefer big scopes but really had fun with that red dot.

If reliability is your numero uno criteria, then I'd spend a bit more. For a 1x red dot you can get an Aimpoint Pro for about $400 or the older style EOTech 512.

Under $200 there's tons to chose from... Vortex SPARC or Primary Arms MicroDot are very popular and rarely hear of any problems.

Vortex SPARC or Strikefire. Both are great quality optics, and both come with a screw in 2x magnifier to help with longer range shooting. Plus Vortex has a lifetime warranty on them. Well worth the money.

I'm going to try the Mueller Speed Shot Rifle Scope 1-4 x 24mm. It has an illuminated reticle. If anyone has had any problems with this model please chime in.
