I found this ammo at a local sporting goods store for $10 a bag (the boxes disintegrated I was told.) The bags are on sale at this price until Jan 7th. So i want to know if I should go back to buy the rest or just avoid them.

As for right now I am just looking for ammo to shoot downrange and not too worried about self defense. Was wondering if anyone has anymore info on this stuff?

On the casing it says POF 83 9mm 2Z. Also some stuff written on the part of the box included in the bag they saved. See attached photo's.

Would these work in a Sigma SW9VE without any problems? I'm new to the whole gun ownership thing so I'm asking just to be safe. (New to owning guns but have shot in the military.)

It appears to be military surplus. The 83

is the year of manufacture. I would worry most about what "disintegated" the boxes. If the ammo hasn't spent time under water or been exposed to corrosive chemicals, it's probably O.K. to shoot.

My first question would be how many in a bag? if it is 50 it is an OK deal if it is 100, a real good deal. If the ammo is not corroded or green the strong Sigma design should handle it. Manufactured in 1983 it should have non-corrosive primers -- if there is any doubt use some old GI bore cleaner for corrosive primers and everything should be gravy.

From the looks of it there is no corrosion or any green on the ammo. Will be trying it out thursday.

It was $10 for 50 rounds. Which in northern ohio is so far the best deal I have found.

Winchester Ranger

Howdy,
I just looked, there is Winchester Ranger 9mm for under $ 400 a thousand shipped on Gunbroker. If you can buy in case lot that looks like a decent deal for new ammo.
Good luck
Mike

Hell, here in TX, WallyWorld has boxes of 100 Winchester White Box 9mm rounds for around $21, $28 for .40 S&W

Heck, they can't keep pistol ammo in stock in the local Wallyworld. Plus they only get in a few boxes at a time..at least that is what they tell customers...

Better off at WM. Yes most often their shelves are bare, but by being patient, and a little lucky, I have able to purchase enough 9mm and .40 S&W at WM to keep me well stocked. Why buy something made in 1983, and not knowing the pressure, when you can get new stuff at WM for essentially the same price.

Finally took this ammo out to the range and fired of all 250 rounds. Had 14 FTE's and only 1 miss fire. The kick wasn't that bad but watching 1 bullet casing fly out on fire was kinda interesting. Oh god did these make my gun incredibly dirty. Even had to clean the Magazines everything was just black.

Houston area stores always seem to have plenty of both (unless you're trying to buy 2000+ rounds)......they just recently started offering Federal .40; used to be only Winchester.
