At the gun show today I found a 5 screw nickel 38spl. with a 2.5in tapered barrel wearing some pretty stag grips that had turned a light yellow. The nickle was a good 98to95%.He was calling it a Victory mdl.Was this correct and was it worth 435.00.

A Victory Model would not be nickeled and would not have a 2.5" barrel. Assuming it is a VM it's heavily modified and worth maybe $150.

I also bet the grips were fake. If real then add $75 to value. The asking price for this butchered gun is a bit north of reality IMO.

You said it was a Victory Model with a 2.5" in nickel. "Pre-Model 10" covers a lot of ground and yes the commercial M&Ps and later Model 10s were offered in nickel but not with 2.5" barrels.

I think first of all you need to accurately identify exactly what model revolver we are discussing. But a 2.5" barrel does not sound right to me for any K frame 38 revolver.

If you had the serial from the butt that would help a lot in figuring out what you saw.

2.5in. was what he had written on the tag also Victory mdl. So I'm assuming If he had one wrong he probably had the length wrong also.

It's entirely possible the seller was clueless. It's also possible it was a VM that was cut up as many thousands had this done to them after the war in a misguided effort to improve them.

Again, the serial would help us ID it.
