.38 M&P model 1905 4th change probably dates to 1932 or 1933. Pete if you're going to collect them, you need to buy a SCSW

You bought a gun to fit a holster you had? Thanks, I bought a gun because I had a bullet mould for a .41Colt and nothing to shoot them out of. I was afraid I was the only one.

You sure it's a 5" barrel? Looks like 6 to me but could be the photo is misleading. Are you measuring from the face of the cylinder to the muzzle?

IMO $225 is high ball park.

Yes I did buy it to fit an old shoulder holster,,, I am sorry to hear that I paid on the high side, But I like it,
I detail stripped it, Cleaned every last part, and it is now VERY nice, Buttery, well it is better, Not like my 25-2 But very good,
It is a 5" barrel, Just measured it again, and it fits in the holster great, Something interesting to wear to the gun club
And I didnt think 225 was too bad, Such is life, I am still learning about these older smiths, and dont have the book-o-gun values with me,
I installed a set of old wooden back pearlish grips on it that were given to me long ago, The other smiths I have are in such nice shape, I didnt want to pop these on, The jury is still out weather these stay, But for now they seem ok,
Thank you all for your swift replies and expertise!

FUNGUN----WHAT EXACTLY IS AN SCSW and where can I get one?
Peter.

I don't think you paid too much, I said high end of ball park.

Besides, you don't care what anyone else thinks. What others think doesn't matter if you like the gun, right?

Right! I like it plenty
Found standard catalog of smith and wesson on fleabay,,,, $23.00, I bought it now so I can quit bugging you guys so much, I have several other smiths I would like to look up,
Thank you all for your help,
Now if I can quit looking at a 27-2 thats in a local shop I'll be alright!!!
Your info and expirence is priceless!
Peter.

The gun is about 1928. $225 is certainly the high end, with that much
blue wear on the barrel. And, the grips were wrong. What was on it
are post-WW2 pc (personal carry) grips.

The right grips are like this one, just posted recently. This one
is very close, in serial number, to yours.
