Need suggestions for the Wife's 50th birthday

Great replies, Thanks!
Now, some responses:
Onomea and TNDixieGirl: That really sounds nice, and I'd LOVE to do that, but after being self employed for 25 years I truly think it would KILL me. (But I might just try anyway).:o
Bullseye 2620: Some very good suggestions, Thank You! I've lived in the same Eastern Iowa town all my life and you gave me some good, easy to get to places. I'll check into them. I especially like the ones near the Amanas, we always love eating there.
Shooboy: I'm tempted to get the hammer, but she'd prolly use it on me.
Misty: Sorry, no twin brother, but thanks, you made my day.:)
Caj: She retired last year, she already has all my money. Plus she gets the mail every day, so sometimes I don't even see it.
Mg357: On Valentines Day, Mothers Day, our anniversary in May and her birthday she always gets a funny card with a poem that I personally wrote, so I got that covered.
Ohio Buckeye: I know I shouldn't, but that number comes up EVERY time. She knows she's my Cougar, and I tell her she gets better looking every day. (And she does).
Thanks again to everybody, and keep 'em coming. I'm leaning toward the trip...........But SHHHHHH....I got a few more tricks up my sleeve.;)

I too am married to a cougar five years older. I took her to a resort in Jamaica for a week for her 50th. Couples Swept Away, it was very nice. Free golf. We like doing that kind of stuff.
Did I mention that there was free golf! :D

skyflyer: Skydiving is on my Bucket List, but if I told her we were going to jump out of a perfectly good airplane in Iowa in October she would die laughing.
bsheperd: Jamaica may be a little too far. Plus, I don't golf, so that's out. I'm sure she's like to go there though.
The quest continues............

AARP membership.......and thats when the fight started.

We've already discussed that. They're WAY to liberal, and they hate guns.

How about a surprise party? Rent a hall, or a room at your favorite restaurant, and secretly invite friends and family to join you both in celebrating your bride's big day.

My wife (also older than me, but she doesn't look it) just turned 50 a week and a half ago: I took her to HI for a week at a nice place. And made a fuss over her the entire time - flowers (leis), jewelry (a ring and a bracelet - stopped by Tiffany's after taking her out for her birthday breakfast at a French restaurant that was just too cutesy for words), fancy sunglasses and pocketbook, frou-frou restaurants, some interesting restaurants that were different, "high tea", music, etc. Seemed to work and was a lot of fun.

She wasn't thrilled about turning 50, but it went all right. It's nice that you're thinking about this so much: it's one of those milestone things that can be made a lot nicer by some thoughtful attention. Good show, amigo, by making the effort - I think that's what matters most. :)

Then again, you can do what my husband did after my son brought me some flowers that afternoon: "Oh it's today? I thought your birthday was next week."

And we're still married. ;)

Dang, this is kind of fun.
moonclip: we promised each other never to have a surprise party. However, what OTHER people do without my knowledge is beyond my control.;) The big day is a Sunday and my Pastors Wife will probably do something. (Actually I have a little something up my sleeve too, I'll report that after the fact).
Erich: I really wish I could afford a trip like that, let alone be able to get away, she'd LOVE it and so would I. Congratulations on pulling that one off. I'll bet the "fringe benefits" were great.:D
Barb: You're a Saint. If I forgot about something like that I'd be sleeping with the cats outside.

Day spa w/couples massage, then out for a romantic dinner.

This one is very good. I suprised my wife on her 40th with it. She still talks about it. For her 50th B'day our daughter arranged a huge suprise party. Both worked. She still mentions the great day trip on his and her spa day. I guess that's a hint, hint.

The main thing is, amigo, you're a caring person who's thinking about it. I'll tell you what: one thing that you ought to do is print this out and show her how many friends you consulted about the issue. I'll bet she'd be real pleased that you're thinking so hard about how to mark the occasion in a special way. She's lucky to have you. :) Must be quite a lady.

Thank you, sir, yes she is. And if I may say so, you did pretty good yourself according to the pics you posted.:D
I'll show all this to her AFTER her birthday. One of my cousins just gave me a really good option which may open up some good possibilities. I'll keep you posted.

Decorate you living room as tropical paradise. Make a airline ticket and a passport with her picture on it. Mail it to her. Cook a nice dinner Coconut shrimp tropical fruit ect. Play steel drum music Get dressed in tropical clothes get a outfit for her. Eat dinner on the floor. I think you get the picture. Then you can present her with real ticket for a cruise when you can get away. Do get away.
