Well, I have had my M&P 15-22 Sport for two weeks now. On day 4, I took it to the range, and after 30-40 rounds, I had an out of battery discharge, and it blew the extractor out. I didn't know enough about the rifle to know that this was a common problem, so I didn't know to look for a missing extractor.

Also, from the very beginning (first magazine), I was experiencing FTE's every 4th or 5th round. After the extractor got blown out, I was getting FTE's every 2nd round without exception. Of course, Smith & Wesson won't send me the parts, and they want me to send the gun to them.

I still have the extractor plunger, but I don't have the extractor spring or the extractor itself. If I could get a spring somewhere, then I would just buy the Volquartsen extractor and fix it myself. Does anyone know if the 10/22 extractor spring is the same extractor spring as the 15-22?

I am very disappointed with the performance of the 15-22, but I still love the rifle. I want to build an AR15, but thought it best to start with the 15-22 so I could learn the AR platform and familiarize myself with the accessories, the overall function of the weapon, and then I think I'll be able to build the right AR15 that will suit my specific needs. I like to shoot varmints, because there are tons on my 2.5 acres. In the last 10 days, I have successfully eliminated 5 armadillos, 3 possums.

I'm currently looking for a way to build a DIY camera scope mount so I can record some of my kills. Also, my Sony Handycam has a night vision feature that works well, which will help me hunt at night.

I have a lot of handguns, but not many rifles, so this platform is new to me. So far I love it, but am frustrated that I have to send it in. Glad to be part of the forum.

Sorry....should have clarified — all critters shot with 15-22 except the vulture. Also, these animals destroy my stuff. The possums burrowed under my shed, and ate a hole through the floor. Once they got in, they got into some boxes that had my old military uniforms, and ripped them to pieces in order to create some kind of "nest." Wasn't too happy about that. The armadillos have created more holes and burrows in my lawn than I can count. So, they may be defenseless, but they certainly aren't harmless. Not to mention the diseases they carry.

Thank you for the link. I'll check it out.

I was able to order 2x extractor springs, thank you.

No problem, glad to help, also i remember once getting a ban on this forum for posting a picture of a koala with a target on its behind, it was spreading, they considered it offensive, so i'd limit to posts of dead stuff to a minimum, lest you be administered to ;)
I don't care what you kill, they are obviously a pest and you need rid of them...but personally i don't need to see it. Post pictures of your 15-22 decked out in all its finery, that's what i want to see. :D

I'm surprised that it isn't easier to find those little parts that go with the bolt carrier assembly. Brownells carries them but they are out of some of that stuff. Other than the website you sent me to, no one else sells those parts.

If you think its hard there in America finding parts, you should

try and find spare parts for our 15-22's here in Blighty :(

To the original poster:
If you had FTEs before the extractor was blown out, your gun may have other issues. Call S&W and get a return label and send it in for them to fix. My 1st generation 1522 has been back three times. Never was it gone longer than 10 days.

Wow! My new (JAN 2016) one had to go back right out of the box. A week to get there, 3 weeks there and a week to come back.
Not great customer service.

An Update

Just to update this thread, I did send my 15-22 into S&W, and they replaced the upper receiver, extractor, plunger, and spring. They also adjusted the ejector. It was gone for 9 - 10 days. The returned it to me in proper working order with an extra magazine. I have over 3,500 rounds through it so far, and not a single FTE or FTF. It is working flawlessly.

It's a shame it couldn't work this way out of the box, but I don't really care at this point. I'm having so much fun with it now!

Good to hear it is working now like it should have out of the box.

I, and others, have had similar problems with ejection that never should have made it by QC. That assumes there is a QC.

A problem with a new 15/22? Don't tell GhostMutt or he will say your gun is dirty and it's your fault.

You clown.....don't put words in my mouth or any thing else for that matter.

If you were not an infant on this forum and had done your research you would find a thread where i actually stated that QC on the new 15-22 sport models, seems to be lacking. I actually alluded to that fact on the thread that you are talking bout...see comment #2 for verification of that fact. Which of course no one could answer....all discrediting with no facts!

Without knowing exactly what work the operator has done on the gun...like removing the FH or handguard, which can seriously mess the rifle up if done incorrectly. We have to hold judgement.
