Just received a 637 gunsmoke from a GB auction NIB It came with circles on the cylinder where it moves when you pull the trigger, sorry not familiar with the part name. Does this mean it is not new or is this normal? This is a PC gun, but it doesn't feel as smooth operating as my 686. Whats up?

Sounds like drag lines on the cylinder.
Might have been dry fired a fair amount but in general a new revolver should not have drag lines.

Here is a used 637 with a drag line on the cylinder.

Thats what I thought Dry fired. Still. The gun should not be represented as factory new. Is this mormal wear when you shoot these PC Guns with this type of finish. Will take a pic

here it is ---do ya'll think this is a used gun? I have only owned the polished version of smiths. Never saw any lines like this --or will this happen eventually after shooting it?

Hi rock! As to your Gunsmoke (or Wyatt) being not as smooth as your 686: I own 2 Wyatts. After putting a couple of boxes of service ammo through each one, the innards settled in place (exaggeration, I know) and now they are very smooth. Please remember all Js use a coil mainspring and I've heard they cannot be made as smooth as the leaf spring in a larger framed gun. Some will disagree below...

A little difficult getting accustomed to the lighter rebound (trigger return) spring. I was going to change it out in my 2 guns, but I left the spring in after my gunsmith told me the PC designed it that way. Absolutely no problems. The Wyatts are addictive little chicken pluckers: shoot it and love it.

Cannot comment on 'cylinder rings.' Hope the above helps.

This year I purchased 8+ NIB S&W revolvers (2 were PC and 2 others were Lipsey)and they ALL had a cylinder ring, slight but non-the-less it was there.

In two cases the gun came straight from the distributor to my dealer and they opened the box in front and me so I know they didn't mess with the gun. I wouldn't know this for sure but would the distributor have any reason to mess with it (doubtful)???

The finish on the Gunsmoke and several other models (like the 317) do seem to show a cylinder line right away.....at least in my experience.

Would like to see your picture to see how bad your cylinder line is.
