New 66 was worth the wait

I haven't seen Speer lead bullets for .38 Special/.357 Mag in a longggg while. But, I do remember that in the early 80s my LGS had them (500 rds bulk pkg) and they were soft. They were made by the swage method. Anyway, they were so soft that I stopped using them for high velocity .38 Special/.357 Mag. applications and went to hard cast lead.

HBWC were the exception to that rule, as I wanted low velocity there.

Aloha, Mark

Revolver bullets don't need to be terribly hard. They need to be harder than the swaged variety, but the real important things are that they be properly sized and properly lubed. Too small, too hard, poor lube = leading. Same for too soft of course.

I like it. Any close up pictures of the ball detent locking system when it's locked up? It seems like its somewhat visible.

A shorter barreled version would tempt me mightily; and with the ball detent they could go way short--like 1.875" if they wanted to.

Is that ball resting inside a detent? Quite possibly my eyes are deceiving me, but it sort of appears to be on the edge of where I'd expect a detent to be.

It's off a little but not enough to concern me. I think S&W could have done a better job on that but over all I'm happy with the fit and finish.

One more picture. It's not hand fitted like my 1977 6" Python but what is these days? I bought the 66 for a shooter and that it does very well . I love the feel and balance and that 64th of an inch is not a deal breaker for me.
