I put 150 rounds(50 DRT and 100 Win. White Box)through my new BG this morning. I had 13 FTFire on the first strike but all fired on the second strike. The RO said it is the gun. She said you just have to find an ammo that it likes and suggested Federal. I have read other post where people say their BG will eat anything they feed it and others say the WWB in 380 has this problem. Also the slide will stay open after the last shot most of the time but not always and it will close when a mag. is inserted sometimes but not all of the time.
Can anyone verify that the ammo may be the issue or is this a problem with the BG. It's not going to get you killed on the range but in a crisis it might. Also is this slide closure common?

On another S&W forum, a member over there had lots of problems with the DRT loads. I've read good reviews of the WWB. I have had problems with my Wife's BG, FTFeed with the Remington UMC FMJ rounds. At the moment, we are having better luck with the PMC Bronze rounds. The RO is correct, I guess some of these smaller handguns are more finicky about the ammo they are being fed. As far as your slide issues, I can't help you there. Haven't had that problem yet! Good luck, I am sure someone might be able to help you with that issue!

I don't have a BG, but M&Ps are similar. For the lite strikes, first thing to check is to ensure the striker channel is clean and not gunked up with anything. Easiest way is to buy a can of aerosol non-chlorinated brake cleaner (or an aerosol can of gun cleaner at 3 times the price). Remove the slide and turn upside down. Find the striker channel cleanout hole just above and next to the stripper. Wearing glasses, use the straw supplied with the brake cleaner and squirt 3-5 seconds into the hole. Cleaner should squirt out of both ends of the striker channel. Work the striker with your thumb a few times and resquirt. Do not lube the striker channel at all. This should be part of your routine cleaning regimen.

After the last round is fired, the slide should lock open. Check that the magazine follower's notch is clean. Powder residue can accumulate.

The "automatic" slide racking when a magazine is inserted is not to worry. It happens more often with a forceful magazine insertion.

If you haven't already done so, suggest looking up a youtube video on cleaning and lubing an M&P.

BG is hammer fired. Does this still apply and am I cleaning the slide or the body of the gun?

My bad concerning the striker/hammer. Bottom line is that something is keeping the firing pin from properly hitting the primer. First place to look is along the mechanical linkage from the trigger to the firing pin. I would squirt gun cleaner/non-chlorinated brake cleaner all along that linkage. Some is in the frame and some is in the slide. If there is no channel cleanout hole in the slide, put the straw at the firing pin hole and squirt there. Make sure the linkage at the hammer is clean and gunk free also. If a thorough cleaning doesn't fix the failure to fires, I'd call S&W.
