I picked up this Safety Hammerless last week, it's in .38 S & W. The serial number is 218XXX, which puts it in the end of the 4th issue but it has the integral front sight of the 5th issue, all the numbers match.
I took it out to the range this morning, the action is excellent, considering the age and the bore looks new. I found a new box of Remington 148 grain lead RN, the target on the right was 10 yards offhand one handed, the one on the left, 15 yards. The silhouette was 7 yards but a little quicker.
All in all I was surprised how good this gun works, being made probably around 1905-1906 according to the serial number range and the fact that the front sight is skinnier than a dime.

It's interesting to see how those old guns can shoot. I've always wondered.

I was a big fan of a TV show where the primary heroine carried one and at times a similar Iver Johnson and a Webley WP. Guess it depended on what the Australian prop house had on hand when they filmed an episode. But she always had a hammerless model.

She killed dinosaurs with it! A .38 S&W has stopping power beyond the bounds of realty if the scriptwriter cooperates!

David, it's always good to see you post. Apparently, the serious injury that you suffered some years ago hasn't damaged your marksmanship!

Are those grips real stag? If not, they look more authentic than most copies.

BTW, do the cylinders of S&W's old top break guns rotate to the right? I'm thinking that probably left hand rotation appeared with hand ejectors? But I haven't handled one of these guns since I was in my teens, and that was many years past.

The action of a 4th model safety hammerless is as silck. You can pul the double action trigger to a point when you can almost fired it single action. I love that revolver. I do own a first, a thirth, a fourth and a second model .32

Yeah, sadly I have another surgery coming up, it never seems to end with it, not a major surgery, they want to do an ulnar nerve transposition, cutting it and moving the nerve to take the pressure off. Yippee.

The cylinder rotates clockwise on this gun, so they must have been thinking in that direction so to speak even then.

Gracias
