I swear, it followed me home. Seriously, I spotted this in my "pusher's" shop on July 18 and couldn't resist. Unfortunately it had a problem and would only fire single shots. The action cycled but it would not fire the second round. We called S&W and got a call tag and returned it for repair. Well yesterday it came home with a new hammer and shoots beautifully. I did find that it doesn't like Remington Thunderbolts but it was fine with Winchester T22 target loads.

Based on the s/n, UBR51xx, I think this is fairly new and in excellent condition.

I will try to post some better pics as well as a complete range report when I get back from vacation.

Congratulations. That is a very nice rig.

I have the 5.5 inch barrel version of the "U" series (mine was built in Nov 2006, IIRC).

I've only tried the bulk box ammo from WM. Federal and Winchester do better than Remington in my experience (not just in the 41).

I have a 41 with A series S. N. and both barrels. I have shot many rounds thru both. It has always preferred standard velocity ammo. It's posted under " New Members ".

I found I got several FTF with the Remington Thunderbolts. The cases had deep indentations so I know the firing pin did strike the case. I reloaded four of the FTF cases and two of them fired on the second attempt. The other two had a pair of deep dents from the firing pin but did not fire. I would estimate about 10% of the rounds failed. I then switched to the Winchesters and got 100% reliability. As far as accuracy is concerned both were comparable with the Winchester groups slightly tighter. I am going to try other brands and spend some quality trigger time with it and report further.

I am taking my 1965 41 out for the first time tomorrow I will take a few different brands of ammo with me

Guilty as charged. Unfortunately they were the only rounds available for function testing when I got it back from S&W. I did remedy the situation though.

J B; I'd suggest if you plan on shooting a lot of High or Hyper Velocity ammo out of your Model 41, you might want to consider one of these:

http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.as...O%20RECOIL%20BUFFER?

If you take your Model 41 apart to clean it you can handle the installation. The Model 41 was designed for use with Standard Velocity Ammo and they work very well with things like CCI Standard Velocity and CCI Green Tag Target ammo. "Rumor" has it that the Factory has done a little 'beefing' up of the Recoil Spring because more and more of these are being purchased and used with the High & Hyper Velocity ammo. I found these "Buffers" many years ago and keep a few on hand and one in each of my Model 41s and Model 46s could they are shooters! Not, dust collectors! In 40 years of shooting Model 41s I only seen a couple of these with problems and all of those "issues" were in guns that had been fed a steady diet of High & Hyper Velocity ammo. The Buffers don't seem have a lick of effect on my use of Standard and Target type ammo but I do find that even once in a while I'll find one of the Buffers showing some signs of damage and figure it's time to replace.

Just kind of cheap insurance.

John; Got your check and the sight will go in the mail this evening. This is the one the "Book" calls for but let me know if you have any problems.
