I just registered to the S&W forum after lurking for a while.
I just purchased a 629-4 classic with a 6.5" barrel and am having a blast re-loading and shooting it. I bought it as a companion to my 1894 cowboy 44 with a 24" barrel for deer hunting. I plan on trying the Smith out on deer this year if I am fortunate to get a close shot.
I'm shooting 240gr .430 sized Dardas cast bullets over 10.5gr of Unique for 1225fps at the muzzle, this is my range load. I worked up a 24.5gr load of H110 under a 240gr XTP that produces 1350fps(this is my 1894 load as well).
I'm able to shoot 2-2.5" groups at 25yds so far...I hope to improve on this with practice. I am extremely pleased with the 629 that I have.
I used to own a 442 and carried it occasionally but the cylander release used to give me a bloody knuckly on my thumb so I sold it off...and replaced it with a Ruger SP101 3" that I absolutely love, it needed a lot of trigger work though and is still nowhere close to a S&W trigger.
I hope to get a 4" .357mag sometime soon...still researching the S&W models.
