As far as Illinois, I just don't know any better. All my life in Chicago or within 10 miles of its border..........
All my kids live in the South.
Just moved for the first time to a place where we have a pro gun state senator and rep.
The wife and I just don't feel comfortable anywhere else.
Ya know, in Illinois we have a red state except for a few blue spots called cook county.
Maybe we'll secede some day......

This is the truth. Except for the collar counties and a few Blue patches downstate, Illinois is a very comfortable place to live. I've got good hunting, fishing, and camping within a short drive of home. It's not crowded. The weather's good. People are nice.
The cops are still your friends. The only reason the blue butt-holes from Chicago haven't completely taken over is they would have a rebellion from the good folks downstate. So I'm staying to be a thorn in their side.

I occasionally shoot indoor in Lake Forest, IL and outdoor in Union Grove, WI. State Supreme Court aside, at least WI is still semi-free.

I grew up in Nort Cheecago. We used to hunt out by the tollway. Bet you can't do that anymore.
