Hi all. I just picked up my Governor Monday. It is my first revolver in my collection. Most of my autos are .45 ACP so it made sense. Plus it looks awesome. I haven't had the opportunity to shoot it yet but I am anxious. I will be shooting mostly .45 ACP as that is what I have, but I can't wait to try the other two rounds. Just curious. How is it?????

Enjoy your new Governor....45 LC and .410 are fun to shoot too.
Can you tell us what you paid? Prices have been going up.

I paid $590.00 + tax.

Wow, I paid $699 a month and a half ago and my LGS gave me 15% off the display price.
Also did yours come in a plastic case. All the early reviews of the Gov stated and showed the S&W plastic case it was shipped in. Mine just came in a S&W cardboard box.
Evidently prices have gone up plus in my area they are (or at least were) hard to get. I bought the first one my LGS received and he had it on order for quite a while.
Oh and to answer the original question, I shoot .45 ACP and .45 Colt because I also do Cowboy Action Shooting so I have plenty of cowboy ammo on hand.

They're an excellent revolver! My daughter's pretty much claimed mine for herself...

Hope the prices are indeed dropping so I can replace mine!

I picked up mine back in May for $700 at a gun show here in Charleston, SC. It was in a plastic box.

I like mine. It's mostly a novelty, but has some ability to be a home defense - holy **** get out of my house defensive gun. I've shot 45 LC, 45 ACP, 410 buck, bird and slugs through it.

I keep buck in it for the nightstand. My wife likes it and is comfy with it, which is why we keep it close by and ready in case some dumbazz wants to try to take something that isn't his/hers. :)

S&W is releasing a new variant for this year in matte chrome.

Mine also just came in the cardboard box. Still waiting to shoot it.

My Governor came in a plastic case.
The "Judge" comes in a cardboard box....
so goeth the "Governor" now to save a few pennies.

Still one heck of a GUN. And there is a purpose for it!!! Its for Smith Wesson people that think their is a reason to shoot 45 Colt, 45 ACP, 410 Shotshell and not worry about others think its a gun without any problem that does not do the job as to what its intended for??? Oh well sure do love mine

great price. in ma 779 and up. they are fun to shoot, its better than the judge because you can shoot 45acp in it, is my home defense gun, I got shot, after that bb disc, to top it off 45 long colt hollow points 250 g. have fun you will enjoy it.

I'm sorry you got shot.............

You got a great deal. I think I paid around $700.00 for mine in 2011. I don't know where you're from, but I find using the moon clips great for shooting plates on those nasty cold days we have. No more fumbling with cold hands to reload.

Probably unlike many of you here, I have no center fire autos. The only other .45 ACP gun I have is a Ruger Blackhawk convertible .45 Colt/ACP. The .45 ACP brass is easy to come by; sometimes free on the ground after the LEOs have been using the range because they don't reload. I think that a moon clip tool is a must.

My preferred shotgun shells are Federal .410 Handgun shells either #4 shot or 4 pellets of 000 Buck. I found the best deals buying cases online. I haven't done it yet, but want to try the Governor with some #8 or #9 shot on the skeet range.

When I bought mine I got it for $579... that was 6/11 when they had just hit the streets. Read & heed the instructions re using copper solvent type cleaners a la Hoppes #9 - they will soften the black melonite finish. I bought an assortment of .410's the first two weeks - none since - kind of a passing fancy. It's forte, to me, is as a backup .45 ACP shooter to my 625JM... and a .45 Colt or Schofield now and then. Fun shooter.

This website once thrived on pictures, would be nice if it could get back to this?

Finally got the Governor out to the range today. I only had .45 ACP. It was great to shoot. Have to aim low though. I can't wait to try it with 45LC or some 410. I just ordered some more moon clips and a tool to help unload them. I found that to be a frustrating event at first. I have never used them before today. I kind of bent one a bit.
