I just acquired a model 36 (No dash) today . Overall condition is very good. The lock-up is tight as if it were brand new.
The seller said it was shipped out in 1973, although I don't have the S&W manual to verify. Serial# J137XXX Can anyone confirm?

1973 is a good guess. Bob may be able to confirm - he is our J frame expert, especially for the Chiefs Special.

Congrats on acquiring a Chiefs Special. I'm sort of fond of them.

Unfortunately the database does not list many from that era, yet.
S&W started that serial series at J100000 in 1973, and the first
ones I've documented shipped in April that year. The one I show
nearest yours is 1270xx, and it shipped on June 26, 1973.

I'm thinking 1973 is a good estimate for yours, perhaps in the fall.

I'm not sure why I waited so long to get a Chief's Special, but that problem is now fixed. Thanks for the assistance! Fall 1973 sounds good to me.
