I just bought a Safariland suade lined holster for my 610 and 625. I like the holster but the suade lining grabs the revolvers really bad. I have the retention settengs very loose but the lining grabs the cylinders to the point where a decent draw is impossible. How could I harden the lining so it becomes smooth? I could probably holster and draw from it several thousand times and get it to smooth out but am looking for something I could do to to hasten that process or preferably a shortcut altogether for wearing the suade down. I have read somewher mink oil may be helpful.

I read that putting the gun in a plastic bag or using Saran Wrap and putting it in the holster will help it. It's just new.

DO NOT apply mink oil to it! You'll ruin the leather. Place the gun in Saran wrap and leave it in place for a few days holstered. You also might want to apply some R Mcguires wax to the fininsh and wipe it off. Then do some drawing and reholstering.

The silicone spray made a tremendous difference!! It draws like a different holster. Will I need to keep re-applying it or will it eventually permeate the suade and become permanent?

On my various Safariland holsters, my initial silicone application was sometimes enough to last, occasionally it would need another dose after a week or two. Can't recall any of them needing a third dose, but YMMV.

KG-9 leather treatment from Brownells works great and lasts a long time. I have used it on all my leather holsters and mag pouches.

Mink oil would be a greasy mess in a holster
