I'm a couple hours away from finally picking up my new m&p! I'm pretty excited. Just wondering when buying a brand new pistol do I need to clean/lubricate before shooting? Any thoughts?

I usually use a solvent in the striker channel right out of the box on my pistols, then lightly.....lightly lube it, the standard lube points get a little of my preferred lube as well(trigger bar and connector, slide rails, etc.)

At a minimum you want to run a cleaning rod through the bore to ensure there is no corrosion preventative compound in the barrel.

Will your gun shoot OK without cleaning: probably an M&P .45 will
Might it not? Possibly
Have I seen some first time on the range that had problems cured by simple cleaning, including magazines? Yes, dozens of times

I always strip, inspect, and clean all guns and magazines before first firing. Sometimes the inspections reveals problems; for instance, the M&P .22 is often too packed with grease to fire correctly.

So what are you trying to save by NOT taking 20 minutes to check and clean your new gun?

Thanks guys.. Just got the beauty a couple hours ago and I stripped it and cleaned it, then lightly oiled the necessary points. It wasn't too bad as far as grease and oil and just a tiny bit dirty from the test fire that s&w puts through it. The mag springs seem a little stiff so I loaded them up and plan on leaving them for a couple days at full capacity. Tho hopefully I'll put some rounds through this thing tonight! Can't wait.

I can't justify dropping 35 bucks on a mag loader. With a little practice magazines aren't that difficult or painful to load.

Read the manual. Different manufacturers have different instructions, even across their various models. Some insist that one NOT disassemble prior to shooting.

The .45 is by far the easiest mag to load. Even so, the UpLULA is God's gift to the double stack magazine.

I guess if you shoot 100 rounds a year it's not worth it. But when you shoot 200 or more a month, it pays for itself quickly.

Just put fifty rounds through it and not a single problem.. I love it. Need some practice tho for sure.
