New member who just bought his first S&W Semi... a 5906 (have had a .357 4" and .38 Special for years).
Own a bunch of CZs (9mm & .40) and love 'em. Was at the range a couple weeks ago and had a chance to shoot the 5906 and was VERY impressed. Not into 'plastic' guns so the classic, all-metal feel of the 5906 was just a 'natural' for me. Just a great shoot... put thru 100+rnds and loved it! My LEO friend said his was 10 years old and NOT ONE problem, flawless!
Saw an ad (CDNN) for a NIB at $399, jumped at it! IMHO CZ makes a pretty damn-good quality gun that for me, has been flawless. Well, when I first field-stripped and cleaned that 5906 the 'inner' quality of that gun was simply impressive!! From the ss-rod, to the spring, to the rails, to the slide... VERY, VERY well made! Only thing that was alittle 'funky' for me was the re-assembly, when you push the slide over the depressed ejector, sear, fp-safety, etc... took about 3-4 practice runs, now I've got it!
Will now start lookin' at the .40s... maybe a 4006?
Anyway, great gun and will look forward to being part of the Forum.

You certainly bought a tough, well made auto that will serve you well. I shoot mine along side the M&P9 and shoot both with similar accuracy. Welcome to the forum and enjoy your "new" pistol. zorro49

Welcome! One of the great things about 3rd Generation pistols is that S&W made them in an almost bewildering array of models, and even did limited runs for specific police agencies, distributors, etc. Finding and collecting them makes for a fascinating hobby.

A 4006 as a 'next' gun is a good idea. That is the model that 'launched' (pun intended) the 40 S&W and is one of the most popular cop guns of all time.

The Third Gen guns were not received as well as they should have been. They were perhaps the victim of the desire to go to DAO pistols for cops who could not stop themselves from the disgusting practice of pointing a pistol at a suspect, then cocking the pistol to make a point. Then the idiots could not seem to keep finger off trigger and so negligently shot suspects, ruining it for everyone else. Thus, lots of good, responsible cops got stuck with crappy trigger DAO autos instead of autos with nice crisp SA triggers. In any event, the Third Gen autos had better triggers than SIG, even though the "gun writers" often said otherwise. I compared the then new 4006 with the then new Glock 22 in 1990 when the .40 S&W cartridge first came out, and the 4006 was MUCH softer shooting. This business of the polymer frame "flexing" thus acting as a shock absorber, while perhaps true, still does not make the recoil from the Glock 22 feel anywhere near as soft as the 4006. If you like the DA/SA action and .40 S&W caliber, the 4006 is certainly a nice weapon.
