I would like to see a new K frame, 2" and 3" (3" for the full size extractor) models, barrel profile on the heavy side (like a model 13's 3" barrel). Rated for .357 or at least .38+p. Round butt, aluminum frame, steel cylinder and fixed sights. No Lock preferably.

Taurus 856 then?
They seem to be getting solid reviews. Should I run across one on the right day, I will probably buy it.

The first response is on the right track.

A D frame sized revolver (small frame .38/.357 Six Shooter) would make more sense than a new Model 12. I have always felt that the Model 12 (post 1973) was a consolation prize, due to the unfortunate fate of the C frame. A Model 12 might be light, but it is still dimensionally a medium frame revolver.

With Kimber, Colt, Taurus, and Charter offering small frame six shooters, it would be nice to see S&W offer a quality competitor. Some might be concerned about internal competition with the J frame. Honestly, I think there is room for both. The J frame makes for a better pocket revolver and a D frame sized gun makes for a svelte belt gun, that is more comfortable to shoot with .38 + P ammo, and easier to carry than a medium frame revolver.

If S&W can produce ridiculous niche items, like the Governor, they can give the Model 73 concept another try. With that said, a new 3" 38 +P Model 12, along with three inch 64s and 619s, would be very nice medium frame offerings.

I recently sold a beautiful condition 2" 12-2, round butt. I loved the gun but didn't shoot it or carry it because I had read the cracked frame threads as well as the anodized finish wearing when carried. I personally would rather have a six shot than a 5 and the larger gun feels better in the hand to me. I think the D frame mentioned above would be a great combo.

Sold my first 856 UL because it was, well... blued.
Just got one in stainless, DAO. Pawn rescue that seemed okay,
but haven't wrung her out yet. Yes, now they are offered in 3" lengths, also.

I've been looking for a Model 315 for awhile. It's the modern short barrel alloy K frame. Well, it reasonably modern. A few years old now. It's still K Frame size.
They came out in the Night Guard series when I was overseas. I got home to discover that they made under a thousand 315s, and those were not available at anything near the MSRP.

I still have the Model 12-2 I carried in my uniform cargo pocket as a backup. I rarely carry it anymore, but it is still an option.

Sent with some arcane communications device.

I carry a 1964 12-2 all the time. I load it with standard pressure 125 gr. HP Nyclads, no problem, very comfortable carry.

My main ccw lately is an old 12-3 that I did a rb conversion on years ago.
If S&W was to bring it back in .357 including a 9mm cylinder would seal the deal for me.

For me, a modern Model 12, lightweight frame, 2 or 3 inch barrel would be the cat's meow. 6 shots with the ability to pocket carry.

What more could I ask?

Bob
