According to Davidson's website the new M63 has the internal lock - hope it isn't so.

I just got a call from my dealer that the 63e I ordered in April was inbound and due Thursday or Friday.

Davidson"s had 14 of the new m63's for sale yesterday evening - they've sold 7 of them so far. Looking forward to range reports from all here that buy one.

I don't know why it wouldn't have the lock, it's not like S&W is moving away from the damned thing.
A few J frames without a lock doesn't mean the end is approaching.

Yes one of those that has been sold is mine and I will give you a report when it comes in. I have 3 speed loaders for it already. I didn't like the 317 I had. I am hoping for a much better results from this one.

I am going to order mine tomorrow. I really don't care if it has a lock or not.

I wouldn't care either. However, my 63 no dash is still unfired so I'll pass on this new offering.Still think the hammer spur is too small on these new ones, not thrilled that it has the fiber front sight.

When you get my age you will love the fiber optic sight.

I did the Davidson's "Instant Quote" from several dealers in my area.

Prices quoted ranged from $650 to $735. Seems pretty steep, but probably won't prevent me from purchasing one if I can sell a few things first.

$650+... WOW, I guess the $419 I spent for this 63 (no dash) P&R wasn't such a bad deal.

Nice one, and a twin, even in condition, to mine(though I have some combats on my now, that really make it fit my paw.)
I fancy those little Al Mar knives too!

I fancy those little Al Mar knives too!

THAT particular Al Mar has a very interesting story. Over the years I used to attend the S.O.F. Conventions in Las Vegas. One thing I always looked forward to was seeing Al Mar and buying 10 to 20 small folders from his factory seconds assortment. These were 1/2 price and no one but Al could tell there was anything wrong with them. In '92 I went to Al's booth to buy my annual load of knives to give as gifts only to find out he only had 7 to sell that year. He could see I was a little disappointed so he digs into his pocket and brings out this knife. He gave it to me. Well that year I only gifted 7 knives... and this one I will never be without. It will go to my grandson.

Al passed away less than 2 months later. He was only 54. And it was only after he had passed that I found out we had both graduated from The Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, both with Industrial Design degrees. Al went on to design great knives, I designed other stuff.

i guess im lucky enough to have a 4" model 63 with no lock of course, though the gun is in well used but far from abused shape.

since this gun is a target, plinking, learning gun i see no harm in it having a lock, but i would search high and low for a non locked gun before settling for the locked gun.

a lock for a defensive gun? hell no!

Believe it or not there are already two 3" 63's for sale on Auction Arms, both by the same entity.
Item #9678370...has a "buy it now" price of $673.78.

Hi got my new 63-5 3" last night. It was test fired at s&w on 11-08-11 and in my possession on 11-19-10, not bad. The 5" was a 63-4 not sure what changed to make the new 3" a 63-5. Any idea? Also who makes your 8 shot speed loaders, HKS? Thanks

Hey Jiminipa, does the 63 come with a square notch rear white outline? Just curious, so I can order one with the ramp front. Thanks!

The post below yours is the one I bought my speed loaders from.

My pusher has mine inbound by Tues/Wed - for about what his in-stock 317K runs. I like the HiViz - at 62, my eyes welcome the help. It needs a larger - and wooden - stock. I will spend part of my third SS retirement wad on it - fitting. It'll join my 5" 63, to which I 'fitted' a green HiViz last Spring (Note to self... wear readers when fitting a sight! See below...).

I previously added the HiViz to my 4" 617, too - see below (Taken before I fitted the HiViz to the 5" 63. Those are Hogue square conversion J-frame monogrips - about the largest J-frame grips I could find - and just acceptable to my medium+ hands.).

I love those Ahrends cocobolo retro targets on the 617 - would they were available in J-frame size!

Like all of my recent S&W's, that new 3" 63 will join the 'Brethren of the IL' here - and one day, I'll have the market sewn up when folks advertise for 'Wanted: Original IL S&W's!". Phooey to you IL-phobics! Seriously, I don't like the IL - but it won't keep me away from a fine revolver... and, yep, my CCW & HD revolver are both IL-equipped.

Hi, no white outline on the the rear sight, just plain black. It seems fine with the red hi-viz even for my poor eyes.

Thanks for the link for the speed loaders and pictures guys.

Tried to order one of these today, gunshop called a distributor who said they have been on backorder since 02/10. Are these just now coming into full production? I know S&W announced them a while ago but I have never actually seen/heard of one "in hand" until recently.

There are 3 of them on gunbroker right now. They just started showing up.
