The aluminum case my 627 PC came in has had issues since day one. First the little arm holding the lid up came apart, which I fixed with a paper clip. Now the tumbler on the combo lock is on the fritz, and resetting itself, which is okay to pass the time watching Blue Bloods on Netflix ... start at 000, rotate, check, rotate, check. Thankfully it reset itself in the 300s, but clearly not a useful case anymore.

Called S&W, they let me order one of the new PC cases, not offered in the stores (yet - I suggested they do it), $20 plus $6.50 shipping. Grey with the Performance Center logo on it, very similar to the black M&P case, with no dial combos to break.

Truthfully, this is the first time I've ever contacted S&W Customer Service about anything, and it was a great experience since the call before that was to the IRS.

Those aluminum cases are highly sought after today. The new one's they make are just plastic. I wouldn't just throw it away if I were you. Hold on to it. Should you ever sell the gun it will give it a lot more value.

That's a tough one; while it may be serialized to match, etc. Its a piece of junk case from the get go. When the locking mechanism is the primary point of failure, the utility of the case is marginal. I'll probably hang on to it until I get tired of looking at it.
