Just took delivery of a new Shield this morning. I inspected it and found that the gun was very clean. I mean extremely clean. There wasn't a hint of factory grease or gunk on it at all. It was bone dry.

Additionally, I received two 7 round mags and my understanding is that it's supposed to come with one 7 and one 8.

Anyone else have their NIB Shield come like this?

Thanks for your help!!

Just call S&W. I saw a post where a member here had the same issue. They sent him another magazine. I think he didn't have to send the other one back. I read this post awhile ago, so I don't recall the exact details. You could also try bringing it back where you bought it, unless you ordered it online.

Thanks guys. I purchased it from a local FFL who just runs his business out of his home.

Did the packaging seem to be 'sealed'? A blue & white cardboard box and then the gun on a plastic packaging?

I don't recall a lot of grease on mine either, I don't think that is an issue.

Mine seemed clean out of the box and came with a 7 round and 8 round mag. Of course, I did field strip and clean and lube it before I shot it.

Mine has the 7 and 8 round mags. It also definitely need to be cleaned as it had an oily film.

My Shield was clean also, but came with the right mags, a 7 and an 8-round. I had expected grease, but there was none. Bought it as new from a dealer on Gunbroker.

VERY stiff to start, so I don't think it had been used. Loosening up a little now. I was surprised at no grease or heavy oil though.

same with mine.....when mine was picked up it had almost zero grease and had some oil on the barrel but that was about it, came with a 7 and 8 rd mag.

I just picked up a 9mm Shield today. Blue & white box, blue plastic, 1 7rnd and 1 8rnd mag, chamber flag, cable lock, spent shell in a sealed envelope and all of the paperwork. I didn't find anything I would call "grease" but, it does have a light coating of oil on all of the moving parts.

Thanks everyone. I'm probably worried over nothing. I contacted S&W yesterday about the mags and hopefully they'll work with me on that issue.

I plan on shooting the gun tomorrow. I'll start worrying if I have any problems then.

Well, turns out it's a shooter, so I was worried over nothing.

I shot around 150 mixed rounds of Freedom Munitions and S&B 124gr FMJ's and around 50 rounds of 124gr Gold Dots. Functioned perfectly without a hiccup. This thing is SO much more enjoyable to shoot than my LC9. There's really no comparison. I was getting very good center-mass shots at around 30 ft. I could barely hit paper at 7 yards with the LC9.

The trigger is a bit gritty though. Hope that there's an easy, free solution to that. Maybe just more shooting will smoothen it out.

Contacted S&W and they have no problem swapping one of my 7 round mags for an 8.

All-in-all, it appears to be a winner.

Just picked up my 40 today. Very oily and agree my trigger is gritty as well. Hope it smoothes out. Id say my old 40c trigger is nicer so far.

My trigger wasn't/isn't gritty, but it did have a heavy 7.5 lb pull. Fixed that with an Apex hard steel sear. It's down to 5 lbs now.

If you want to fix the gritty trigger, you will probably need to replace the striker block with an Apex USB. I didn't want to fight removing the rear sight, so I just went with the stand alone sear to reduce the trigger pull.
