New Shield Plus on the way

Base model, or PC?
Thumb safety?

I’ve got about $1500 invested in my 1.0 9mm Shield to make it a Shield Plus PC w/Optic Cut (clone)but mine was functioning about four years ago. I have an Apex flat trigger, 3 10-round mags (Maguts), and a Shield 4 MoA optic. I won’t get to 13+1 capacity with my current one, and it is reliable and accurate so I’m OK with it.

Maybe when the excitement dies down a bit I’ll get a Plus. I like the higher capacity, the new trigger and especially the grip swell.

I have a Gen 1 Shield 9mm that I carry daily (have for years). All stock, no mods. If I feel I need more firepower than 8+1 plus 8 round reload; then I will carry my Gen 1 M&P 9C (12+1) or my 2.0 M&P 9 Compact (15+1). Then there's also my FS Gen 1 M&P 9 (17+1).

I know S&W is trying to compete with the other Hi Cap/Compacts on the market; good for them. My situation doesn't require me to make another purchase, but that's just me. Kudos to S&W, choices are always good! :-)

I have a Gen 1 that I have been tremendously happy with. I hope your x turns out to be as reliable and nice as my Gen 1. Congratulations!:)

On youtube, Julie Golob mentioned that it's harder to rack than a regular Shield when the mag is full. I would be curious to know how big a deal that is.

The new trigger design looks nice.

Read all about it and think I would like one but I have so much in my Gen.1 Shield that I will have to be buried with it. Mine has Ameriglo I Dots, Apex Trigger kit, Talon Grip and four mags. Works very well. I lend it out a lot in my classes. May sell it to a student and get one of the new ones.

Congratulations.

I bought a Performance Center M&P40 Shield 1.0 back in January, and I'm not about to buy a Shield PLUS so soon afterwards, but I think that it's a fantastic option for those who don't already own a Shield and would like a higher capacity option.

Well you're going to be very VERY PLEASED with it. I got to play with both the Max-9 and Shield Plus today at a LGS. The trigger in the Plus is FANTASTIC! There is so much difference in the new trigger it feels like Overwatch Precision built it for S&W. Seriously you can't compare the new trigger to the old hinged (elbow) trigger, they're not even on the same playing field. S&W really did something over and above.

The Shield Plus looks to be a very nice gun. My only point of concern is the safety tab on the trigger. Their new safety tab thingy does not have open area behind it to push out pocket lint etc. So possibly that could be a point of malfunction over time as crud builds up. Really depends on the environment the gun is carried in. Would like to see a video where dirt fills that trigger area to see if it will still fire.

The scissors-style trigger safety tab on the competing Ruger Max-9, is not as elegant looking as the Shield but is open ended to push thru most crud.

I've got a Shield 9mm 2.0 PC. After owning a dozen autos, IMO this is the best one. Accurate, light, great sights - I can't say enough good things about it.

I wish the Shield Plus mags worked in my gun but I'm not trading up. I'm keeping mine.

I love the idea of it, but my Shield 9mm has an Apex trigger, I have about 6 mags for it, and I don't see the need to change now. I can only get a 10 round mag in my state anyway, and I could get that with a +2 adapter on a stock mag anyway, just makes the grip longer.

I guess if I held one, I may change my mind. In the current market, in my area, with the mods on my Shield, I would probably come close to breaking even if I traded in my shield. But then, i would need to buy a lot more mags...

I know that I for one would be interested in your thoughts comparison wise between the plus and max 9. When I find a pro model max 9, I'll be buying that as well.

Took my Shield 9 Plus to the range today only put 50 rounds down range. However it shot great. Accuracy was fantastic, but I shoot all the shields well. Grip texture is much better then the 2.0. Seems to be no difference in grip size thickness. Racking was easier (for me) then earlier Shields but not to the EZ level. Handles recoil well, but then it's only a 9mm. Very smooth trigger right out of the box. S&W will sale many of these Plus models.
