New to me 28-2 Snub Nose

The new crane lock on the ejector shroud is very typical of Jovino but not many others. Most others that cut the barrel removing the ejector rod lock put the replacement lock in the top of the crane pressing into the top strap. I have owned several lettered Jovino modified N frames which are now all in my son's collection. There are a number of excellent threads here on the work done by the Jovino shop.

I've seen two in the wild in 40 years of gun shows. Looks exactly like a Jovino! Great find!!

I would love it even more if the front contour of the under lug was like a 2- 1/2 inch Model 19 instead of that rounded profile.

I don't see any indication that it has been sleeved. There wouldn't have been any reason to do so. Besides it would require making custom parts which would require a ton of extra labor.
A 2", round butt 28-2 with smooth trigger and RR/WO, Jovino'ed hammer and yoke ball and detent is WAY COOL !!

A lot of people think that because the barrel is only 2" that the pistol will not be accurate. That is totally wrong. Even a Chief with proper 158 gr loads will shoot to POA and stay there. It is harder to hold because it is small and light, but if you do your part, the gun will certainly do its. Take the time like you are shooting bullseye and see what I mean. How anyone could prefer a slot to a target sight is beyond me...

I used to have a 25-2 that Randy Lee converted to a 2 1/2" barrel, round butt, and bobbed hammer. That was a really cool gun.
Still have this 625 that had the same treatment, but a 3" barrel. It's 45 LC and milled for 45 ACP moonclips.
My favorite is still the 1 7/8" M327 8-shot flash-bang.

All this shooting at balloons and such is all hog wash...
2" revolvers were made for close up where you don't aim but instinct shoot with out looking at the sights....
Anyone who thinks that's wrong was probably never in a close up gun fight.....

What if you get in a not so close up gunfight and all you have is your 2" revolver? Just because it has adjustable sights doesn't mean you have to stand with your weak hand in your back pocket and shoot single action like a bullseye match, you can still point it and shoot DA at contact distance. Aside from personal preference what is the big supposed drawback to adjustable sights? Snagging issues can be addressed with holster and garment selection and the rear blade can have the corners rounded off if one is really worried about it.
It's been said that the 2" M15 was the direct result of the snub class in PPC matches. Targets were shot out to 50 yards.
I have many S&Ws with fixed sights and many more with adjustables, given the option I'll take adjustable in almost every instance.

Since a Model 28 was strictly a .357, and the gun is still a .357, why would anyone wonder if the barrel had been sleeved???

Years ago when I was only 55 or so,
I used to shoot in an old limestone quarry. I would take a case of clay targets out and place them on the quarry walls at a measured 100 yards. Shooting with my then new .357 640-1, factory sights, shooting off-hand, (one handed, standing on my back legs for those who don't understand "off-hand), I usually was able to break about 1/2 of them on the first shot! No, snubbies aren't just for across a phone booth (remember them?) self-defense distances.

The 19-2 snub had a small test run in the early 60's but became a standard item by sometime in the the mid late 60's.
If someone put the time and effort prior to the 19-2 snub I get it but after the snub 19-2 became avaialble a snub N frame .357 really doesnt make much sense IMO.
I have handled a Jovino .45 acp snub, great gun and same barrel profile ball detent iirc.
Ps isnt that pic of a "sleeved barrel" actually one of those two piece shrouded barrel S&Ws ?

A few years after the 629 was released, Bill Davis and my dad thought it would be fun to cut one down into a snubby for CCW. Dad actually used it for concealed carry occasionally.

Depending on how many digits are after the N548 could be late 60's to 1980 if 6 digits IIRC.
Either way the K Magnum snub was either out a few years or 10 years by then so a Jovino .357 snub wouldnt make much sense when a factory 19-2, 19-3 snub existed in the late 60's and the 66, 66-1 snub (and 65 3"?) existed in the 70's.
It would be competing against a factory made and available supported unit, price point would likely be higher to recoup all the labour not to mention the K magnum snub is smaller/lighter for CCW.

The length of your barrel doesn't matter.
I used to have this one that had been additionally converted to .44spl, sold here a number of years ago. Never lettered but had all the signs of being either a Jovino or Behlert. Fun little blaster, would've been a pussycat with .38s had it stayed original caliber.
