New to me 625-3, with issues....

So I bought a 625-3 off of Gunbroker. Picked it up today. The trigger action was ridiculously light and I immediately suspected that the strain screw had been backed out. Lock up and timing are good so I did the paperwork and brought it home.

Get it home and remove the grips, strain screw is backed almost all of the way out. I tightened the screw down and the trigger stopped about returning forward unless assisted.

Removed the sideplate and discovered that someone has ground off one end of the trigger rebound spring. I say this because one end is flat to a point.

So I am gonna try replacing the springs first.

Anybody have an opinion on the best replacement spring kit on the market for the N frame?

18lbs is factory, I've found that 14 or 15lbs is the lowest reliable weight if you want to lighten the pull. Below that, the trigger return starts to gets sluggish or finicky in its return.

Agree with the 14 or 15 lb. If this is a "fun gun" you may want to try the Wolf spring kit - lighter mainspring and comes with 13, 14 & 15 IIRC.

Return the factory springs and see how it functions. Odds are, it will be better than you.

No slight intended but most shooters can not appreciate a good action job. They are told by the writers that a factory spring is "too heavy". Really? I competed for about a dozen years with factory springs before switching to lighter springs. What a mistake! Knocked me off the winners podium! Switch back to factory and back in the competition!

You can not buy success, you really do have to earn it!

I ordered the Wolff kit with the factory mainspring.

I just bought a new set of replacement springs for my 617. I put a stock S&W mainspring in it and have the strain screw tightened all the way down. I use an 11 pound rebound spring. After years of shooting light actions I have no trouble getting my finger off the trigger for reset.

I've not had luck with the Wolf lighter main spring but they are worth giving a try and if your ammo goes bang you are in luck.

Well I finally received the springs today after the usual ordeal with usps..
Installed the new mainspring and the heaviest trigger return spring in the package.
Works great, trigger is great.

Now try the lighter return springs and see how you like them. You may end up back at square 1, or you may like one of the others better. You will never know unless you try.
