Just picked up a very clean CS 40. Went to the range today and put 100 rounds through it without a problem. I'm impressed, but then again all the S&W semi autos I've fired seem to always work well. One question about grips: I've read about the Big Dog grips and wonder the pros and cons of the long vs short Big Dog products for the CS 40.

I have the short version on my CS40 and the Longs on my CS45.I think it is mostly a question of looks. The long version of the grips extends the back of the grip to the bottom of the floor plate of the magazine.

CS40 Specifications

Could one of you gentlemen provide the dimensions of the CS40 for me. I've been interested in the whole series, CS9, 40 & 45, but information is almost non-existent on them. Is the CS40 the same size as the CS45 or intermediate between the 9 & the 45? Thanks!

Ok, thanks. I seem to remember reading that the CS40 was built on the CS45 frame. I haven't been able to find _anything_ on the CS40, and all I've been able to find on the CS9 & CS45 are the barrel & overall length -- nothing on the height or width.

CS45 +CS40 dimensions

If you search for "cs45 dimensions" you will get a bunch of hits.
Look for one about "cs45 dimensions and specifications".
in the replies there is a post by 'Inboost' that will give you enough dimensions to make your head spin.
He did a great job on it.

tom_45,

Thanks, I found the thread by inboost. You're right, he provides more than enough information! I know that I want a CS9 for CC. Now, I just need to decide if I want a CS40, as well. :D

If in doubt, try to collect all three ;)

Congratulations on your "new" CS40! I love mine! :)

CS40 Chiefs Special specifications:
Barrel length: 3 1/4"
Overall length: 6 1/2"
Height: 4 5/8"
Width: 1 3/8"
Weight: 24.2 oz

I already have a S&W 4040PD, but now that I know the spec's of the CS40 & CS45, I'm not so sure that I don't want to go for a triple play, like Ranger98 and trade-in the 4040PD (or not ;-) .

So where are the photos? ;)
