new to scopes! need opinions!

I'm advocating irons for HD.
Noted. However, the title of this thread specifically eliminates this option. Sure, irons work, but we're talking about optics here.

ACOG? For HD? Who cares if it will survive you banging it on your safe, it will get you killed trying to peek through a 4x optic within 25 feet.
This is completely wrong. But then maybe you're not familiar with using a magnified optic in close quarters situations.

Take a look at this article: https://www.trijicon.com/na_en/company/unique_to_trijicon.php

To save a little reading, here it is in short:
Using both eyes to acquire the target, focus on the target. Then bring the gun up into your vision. The eye behind the scope will automatically take over as it sees the target easier.

You should try this, it's easier than it sounds. Yes, I've used this method to win competitions with targets closer than 25 yards. Are irons or a red dot better at close distances? That's a discussion for another thread. However, to say that a magnified optic will get you killed, is ludicrous.
