New tube cap, thoughts?

What is this "cap" or "plug" for? My stock rubber one came out the first time I went shooting and I havnt replaced it yet. I have more than 3000 rounds through it and havnt had any issues with it.

What is this for?

Thanks

well for one it would help keep debris out of the buffer tube

If you want to store stuff in the tube, you need something to keep the stuff in. I keep my bore snake and front sight tool in my tube.

Ok, thanks for the info. So its more of an "extra" than some type of functionality for the rifle itself.

Thanks

Is that it?

Yep, that's it. The part has to be cored out, or the stock would "sink" and warp like crazy. Plastic gains no physical strength or other properties by being solid. More times than not, the part is weaker.
I don't see that anyone is making a plug for sale, just the prototypes early on.
