Hey folks after I got home from shooting last week I noticed my rubber cap was missing so... thought I would drop by and show off my latest work on the lathe.

Not to fancy but I like it much better then the stock one. Thinking I will turn another and send it with my dad's stock to get engraved before anodizing.

thoughts? ideas? maybe i will make a batch of em up one day when i can't go shooting.

I'll buy one if you make any to sell!

Idea:
- how about drilling a hole on the edge of the cap that would allow you to attach a small keyring loop, or tab of some sort to use as a pull tab.
- or, instead of drilling a dimple in the end of it, leave a nipple sticking out and knurl the nipple so you can grab it without taking the stock off.

Right now it has a hole through it, I found that it needed to vent or it would push back out easy over time or would be hard to pop out. Thinking about a little 550 cord with a nice knot or knurling, I just wanted to make this one quick so the knurling tool stayed boxed up.

mmmmm tasty, should be straight forward to make. instead of the nipple though I think just a hole through the edge of one of the spokes, not through the piece though. big enough for a loop of 550 or something.

As far as an air hole, you could use something like this to close off the hole after the plug is inserted. It would be easy enough to make with any type of bolt and an o-ring. You would just have to machine a groove or flat along the bolt to let the air out then tighten once it's in. You could use a nylon bolt probably.

Has S&W offered you a job yet? Nice work. That little rubber deal they include is about worthless. I got a Hogue grip with a plug to store stuff. Your idea looks pretty well thought out and functional. Going into production ?

I don't think a hard ring will work because it sits near flush with the stock collapsed.

I did give it some good testing and found it had backed out a little at the end of the day but it was still secure. I might try a different o-ring or maybe 2. but I think it is a million times better still.

As for production, it seems like there would be some interest so I guess I will make more. My father in law should have a batch of other stuff ready for anodizing soon I can add them on to.

okay wow what a week, 12 hour days suck. anyways i did get some time in my shop and finished up what I think will be the final design.

not sure if i am going to mill the crown or just knurl it, the knurling really helps get it out without taking off the stock, but I also have the hands of a younger man. a lanyard or ring might be needed for some.

short work day and then i'll be home.

Hi, for those that may be watching this I wanted to drop bye with an update.

I have been busy with work and the weather has been super cold so I have not gotten out until yesterday and got some bad testing results to share.

Shooting Aguila Supermax or stingers I can't get the plugs to stay in, the best is my prototype and I suspect it is because it has a hole to vent air pressure.

I and going out again to shoot some paper today and I will see how many mini mags they will hold on for. But without a redesign you wont be able to shoot the hot loads and have these stay in it appears.

I've been trying to think of a practical use for that tube, and may have just
thought of one.

The old M-16's had this trick trap-door where you could stuff a cleaning kit.

Though impractical, not impossible, but what has come out in the last few
years that can be handy in the field?

A bore snake!

How about a beveled hole that you can shove a snake tail through?

It would allow the air to escape the through the porosity, and allow a quick
field clean, if the spirit moves you.

Just avoid pulling too much out, to avoid the tampon effect...

I've actually been keeping my bore snake in the tube for a while now
