New twist on ammo at my lgs/range

Working p/t at a LGS/indoor range - I will NEVER live long enough to use all the brass I have accumulated......

....
BTW, thought you had to have a license to sell reloaded ammo?

In the very least they are supposed to pay Federal Excise Tax on the manufacture of the ammo they are selling.
The rate for ammo is 11% I believe and payable quarterly to the US Gov'ment.

The only way around not paying it is to segregate a customers empty brass, reload that segregated brass specificly for that person and return it to them only.

Problem is with excise tax is that if the Range gets a strong suggestion from the IRS that they have to start paying it,,the reloads they sell just go up in price by 11%.
The average customer never wins..

Many shotgun ranges have a rule that if the empty hits the ground, it belongs to the club.
I never liked that and never belonged to anyplace that had that rule. Some don't seem to be bothered by it.
Maybe it's their way of showing they care little about the pittance of the value of the emptys.
Many shooters don't reload and really don't care about them.

But Hey Bub,,I reload,,they're mine!!
Even the ratty looking ones have at least one more loading left in them.
I said that the last time I reloaded it too.

I've never been on a rifle or pistol range like that,,but if I found myself on one, I'd never go back.

I don’t shoot my 10mms outside because I might lose a case, when I take them to the indoor range I count the brass, if I don’t have each and every fired case, I clean and sweep until I find it.

I am a PARANOID about brass, especially 10mm brass, have you checked prices?

I put hours into neck turning, primer pocket reforming, sorting cases by weight and the like on rifle cases, cases become a valuable commodity, what do you mean I can’t collect my cases?

Not only would I not shoot where I could not collect my brass, I would organize a boycott.

I am upset just thinking about it. Bleah!

I agree with LTC USAR thats a big danger some guns dont do 2 and 3 times loaded rounds well. Glock with factory barrels maybe 9mms will be ok but in 40sw for example that is a KBOOM waiting. that will bite them in the rear later maybe.

This is also a policy at the ranges near me just north of Detroit. However, you can purchase the high dollar SD ammo such as Speer Gold Dots and take it home with limitations on how much you can purchase. As for not being able to pick up my brass, one range tried that and I had a discussion with the owner about paying me for my brass and that policy was rescinded. You can now pick up your own brass but you aren't supposed to police the brass of any other shooters.

Last weekend I was trying out so new loads in 308 Winchester and the neighboring range was also shooting rifles. When the were leaving they simply dumped their casings in the brass barrel, almost made me want to cry. Was tempted to pick it out of the bucket but they were shooting 303 British and 30.06, both calibers I don't have.
