I haven't posted much for a while. Life has been complicated. In 2022, I nearly died from congestive heart failure. I survived. Completed acute rehab, started exercising and losing weight, and increased my mobility. I lost just over 200 lbs and worked out about an hour per day.

I got into a wonderful relationship in 2023, and we made plans to get married in March of 2024. Life was wonderful and my future looked promising.

On Thanksgiving Day of 2023, however, I had a massive brain bleed. I was in a coma and required a major craniotomy. I was not expected to survive. I may share more of the story another time but will keep the story a bit shorter now.

I spent 65 days in the hospital and the acute hospital rehab. I remember nothing from Thanksgiving to Christmas. I have worked slowly to gain back strength. They thought that my talking would be impaired and walking impossible. I need a cane to help with balance, but I am able to do both.

My fiance and I got a house this fall and she moved in to get it set up. We got married at this year's New Year shindig with her friends. I am moving today (Friday) to join her in the new home that is now ready for our lives together.

I'm alive. I'm newly remarried (my first wife died in 2018). I'm getting stronger and so much happier through the tough times. It is a new year, and definitely a new start.

I hope you all are blessed this year, even when times are hard. Don't give up. A new start may be just around the bend.

Dang Paul what a tough haul and very good to find you still among us.
Congratulations and All the Best with the marriage and new digs.
One question begs asking, how is Mrs. Ride with the whole pants thing?

As someone who recently spent time in the hospital for cardiac issues I have a small sense of what you’ve gone through. I’m down 50 lbs but I cannot imagine how good it must feel to be down 200!

Congratulations on your success and blessings to you and your new bride!!!

You are a true inspiration, thank you for sharing your story.

Wow. What a story of tribulation and triumph! I am happy for you and your bride.

Your story reminds me of a wonderful WWII vet telling my high school class "I'm going to tell you the difference between a problem and an inconvenience." You went through huge problems that make my "problems" pale in comparison. My problems are mere inconveniences.

I wish both of you all the best!

Wow! That is a lot to go through.

Congratulations on your perseverance, and may your good fortune and blessings continue for many years into the future.
