newbie take down lever problem

I just bought my first pistol (m&p 40 c) and I'm having a problem with my take down lever. When I rotate it down to remove the slide it will not stay in the down position. It always turns about halfway back to up position. Any ideas why it won't stay in the down position? Any ideas appreciated from a newbie.

Just move it back to correct position and hold it there when reassembling. This is not unusual and it means absolutely nothing.

I have the same issue sometimes on my m&p 40 FS. Not a problem.

I just tried the fix of filing the nub off of the take down lever and also smoothing the edge slightly. Found the fix on another thread here. Works great now. Very simple fix. Thanks for the help.

I believe it is spring loaded. Why? I have no idea. It seems designed for people with three hands. One of the quirks about my 9c that I do not like at all.
