Anybody remember these in Troy?

Amazing what a little polish and Renaissance will do.

32 HE's - serial numbered 41 numbers apart.

Each a beauty alone, and more than twice as handsome together. Nice.

This answers a question for me too. I have been spending some time in the I-frame world recently as I taught myself about the .22/32 revolvers. All the .22 I-frames all came with adjustable rear sights, and of these only the kit guns (four-inch barrels) were offered with the round butt stocks. All six-inch .22s had the oversize square butt target stocks, but sometimes you find them with the slightly smaller Regulation Police square butt stocks. I kind of wondered what a long barrel .22 would look like with the smallest stocks available, and now I know.

I'm not sure it would have made sense for S&W to offer round butt stocks on a revolver that was advertised for target shooting. I may take my .22/32 target to the range some day and switch grips midway to see what happens to my groups with the smaller pieces of wood on it.

Great guns. Great picture.

Pace, You need to do something special for that pair. YOu need to mak or have some one make a shadow box for those puppies. That would be way cool....

Very nice, Mike! They look so long and sleek - like a couple of greyhounds.

Thanks for the post,

Jerry

I don't know if I saw them there or not, but they do look good. I looked at a lot of guns there, that's for sure.:) Had a darn good time too!

Letters received

Well, got the letters, yes, they were in the same shipment. (along with 48 of their closest friends). The cool factor comes in the ship date. Both letters are exactly the same with the exception of the s/n.

Wow, very nice! I agree, they'd look great displayed together.

I'm very surprised at that 1941 "war time" ship date.

A very nice pair! Definitly need a shadow box display for those beautys. Thanks for shareing with us.

Interesting date...8 days after Pearl Harbor. Thank you for sharing.

Also, how long did it take to receive the letters?

I just bought one of these yesterday, nickel finish, 6inch, with original box..Roy says it also shipped in december of 1941. Very nice pair you have.

Mike,

I found the identical gun (a 99%'er in the original maroon patent box with "Helpful Hints"...the early one with the officer in riding breeches) a few weeks ago here in Texas. It is #4508xx and shipped on December 17, 1941 to H & D Folsom Arms Co. NY, NY.

These little guns, which all shipped within a few days of the Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor, may give us a little insight into the National psyche at that time. In those traumatic days the Country was very unsettled with concern that our coastlines might be invaded at any time. Your guns went to the west coast...mine to the east coast. We can just imagine citizens who were in a panic to acquire some sort of home defense. The fact that they were put away with little or no use may also contribute to that scenario.

A 6" barreled .32 probably wouldn't be our first choice today, but it would certainly be better than a sharp stick to repel boarders.

I don't remember seeing the guns at Troy, but I recall your table and good visits with you. Glad you got that pair.

Smithcollector,

Welcome aboard the Forum!

Where was your gun shipped? Please give us a partial sn also if you don't mind.

Bob

Thanks for the welcome!
i've been lurking here 2 or 3 years every day, just havent signed up. The serial # is 5045xx, and havent lettered it, just got the ship date from Roy. It came with a black (or VERY dark purple) hinged top box with "helpful hints" booklet, nice leather holster, gun rug and box of ammo, all for $400. Both grips were cracked and glued, i've ordered reproductions. The nickel is all there, but it's been carried so its not mint.
