I do have a question though. Since they are consecutive guns are the fitting numbers in the yoke anywhere near similar to each other?
I have been interested in finding out how a fitting number is picked for a gun. If these fitting numbers are real close maybe its a clue. If not well maybe its employee related or something else.

That's an interesting question. Wouldn't that be cool if the assembly numbers were also consecutive! It would indeed but I'm afraid at 17461 and 22903 they aren't even close.

The barrels are 6 inch.

After finding out my 4" nickel 5-screw pre-29 was not what it appeared to be, it's not surprising or unreasonable to question this pre-27 pair as several have done.
To be honest I had not removed the grips. I figured the boxes said 6" Nickel and were numbered to the guns and that was enough. After all, imagine how hard it would be to come up with these boxes for two bogus guns! Anyway I removed the grips to take a look. They were so "snug" I would bet that's the first time the grips had ever been removed.
