A friend of mine purchased a handgun yesterday and while the clerk was doing a background check with the FBI, the clerk took down data about the guy's
last three purchases which the NICS guy had looked up. The purchases spanned a 3-month period.
This was not requested by the clerk, a veteran gun shop man, and he commented that the "rule" about not keeping record-of-purchase after 30 days suspect. He did say only this one NICS checker did that but apparently the records are not being expunged, at least not quickly.
