The box might be what was driving the price. It appears to be a very nice Target in .44R rather than the Target .32-44 and .38-44's.

44 targets are not rare.
the box is for a standard model.
very expensive box.

I was watching it as well, along with a nice nickel one, both of which went way over with I could afford! Here's a pic of a gorgeous engraved NM#3 for sale up here in the great white north. The seller is asking about $5400. USD which translates into about $7400. CAD. Far too rich for this old pensioner, short of winning a lottery.

This doesn't look like factory engraving to me.

mrcvs & Exmilcop,

Most definitely "Not" Factory Engraving...And for that matter...Not even Period Engraved!!

As far as I'm concerned...Someone ruined a Perfectly Decent Original NM#3 as best as I can tell!! Also...Not near worth the asking price here in the US...Let alone in Canada...Just my honest opinion!!

I would think 2-3K
Two - three K??? In that condition? From what I've seen of US prices recently on Guns International (which seems very overpriced to me) and GunBroker as well as the auction houses, a NM#3 in that shape seems to run upwards of 4 grand on a pretty consistent basis. They're stupid crazy priced up here for one in exceptional condition. Here's one of very early production (serial #54) .38/44 target pistol in exceptional condition. Seller is asking $12,500. so about $9100. in real money.

Here is one that sold here in Canada this spring for $12,000. Price is the hammer price in Canadian $ and does not include the Buyers Premimum of 18 %.

From the one picture it looks like it may be refinished

That is really nice but is not in the same conversation about the OP gun

I was eyeballing that piece, I think I even stuck a bid in just to keep a better eye on finished price. Seems like a lot of money but I do know what it is like to find something you have been looking for or think you need when it comes down to the pure fact that "its only money and you can't take it with you."
