Hi There,

My earlier post about the extractor gear is from this revolver. Unfortunately,
the barrel has been shortened to 6 inches (but whomever did the job,
didn't get it square with the bore). I'll have to fix that but I still like it.

Well with that all said, take a look at the pics.

Cheers!
Webb

It looks to be a twin to mine (except
the barrel hasn't been shortened).

Webb,

No doubt about it...Other than the Finish & the Shortened Barrel being a factor...The same Engraver's Hammer & Chisels did the Fine Engraving Work on both of those Revolvers!!

Just curious...Did you grab the Blued one as well....You never said??

I'm sorry but I'm drawing a blank here. Refresh my memory and
tell me which one this is?

Webb,

Maybe I'm the one that's a bit confused...Are you saying "Both" Revolvers are Nickel Finishes??

If not...Is it possible that the Guns International Revolver is possibly Silver-Plate?? Reason I ask is the areas that led me to believe the Guns International Revolver had a Blue Finish could possibly be Tarnished Silver-Plate given it can give the same look if left unpolished!! Hope I didn't add further confusion!!

Hi There,

Are you talking about the one in the first post? Yes I did by it. It
was being sold in an auction and I bid on-line and won it. Unfortunately,
I didn't know about its mechanical problems but these are things
I can deal with.

The one I bought has no finish on it except in protected areas inside
the frame. It was plated originally but I'm not sure if it is nickel or
something else (haven't tested it yet). Silver is very soft and would
wear off quickly. The other one's description says it is silver plated.
I'll definitely get a letter for mine.

The serial numbers of these two are within 250 of each other and I
wonder if they were ordered together. A Factory letter may tell (unless
they were engraved by the distributor). The grips on mine are ivory
but are not numbered and someone did a very amateurish checkering
job on them. The one on Guns International is in better condition
but the price the seller want is spectacular ($15,000.00)! I didn't
pay anywhere near that much for mine.

Cheers!

Hi Webb,

Sorry...I wasn't confused as to which Revolver you won...Only if you had also acquired the Higher Condition Revolver as well!! Thanks for clearing that up as well as confirming the Guns International Revolver was listed as Silver-Plate rather than Blue as I originally thought it possibly could have been!!

As to me making mention of the Higher Condition one possibly being Silver-Plate rather than Blue...Now after looking Yours over a bit closer...I also agree I believe Yours to be Silver-Plate as well!! Also...As unlikely it may be...If by chance Yours does "Letter" as Factory Engraved...Hopefully the Finish will be listed in the records to confirm that fact...Good Luck!!

The other indicator as to Yours being Silver-Plate rather than Nickel...Overall there are no specific areas where "Any" indicator of flaked off Nickel can be found as far as I can see which is unusual on a worn Nickel-Plate Revolver!! It also retains a high retention of the Original Engraving Definition which is also unusual on one having been Nickel-Plated many years ago & not had the best care over the years!!

I also did a little editing to enhance the sharpness of Your Revolver's Photos...And clearly in the protected areas...Especially in the darker area as under the Barrel Rib...You can clearly see it's highly unlikely this Revolver was ever Nickel-Plate given Nickel doesn't darken that consistently with age...It just flakes off to base metal!! Also Your Revolver gives no indication of flaking anywhere just smooth overall finish loss which is another indicator of not being Original Nickel-Plate!!

If it isn't too much to ask...Would it be too much trouble to post a couple photos of the Frame under the Cyl. as well as the underside of the Top Strap Area of Yours to get a look as to how much Original Finish is retained there...Just curious??

Hi There,

I am taking the action apart for cleaning and I found that the hammer
was "gold washed." Also, the silver plating under the grips is much
more apparent. This fits with the level of engraving on the revolver.

I also learned something today. I didn't know the interlocking hammer
was made that used the older cylinder stop (with the "bump" on the
hammer). See Pic.

Cheers!

I can do the top of the bottom strap but the cylinder retainer is being
stubborn. The screw came out but the retainer is stuck fast. The
lip on the retainer shows some battering so it looks like someone
forced the retainer back in. I'm soaking the top strap with Kroil®
and maybe it will loosen (in a week or two; if it is stuck with rust).
If I can get it out, I'll take pics of the underside of the top strap
for you. In the meantime, here are some pics of the frame.

Cheers!

Hi There,

Speaking of the frame, it is dirty in there. I would like to clean it
but I am afraid of using my ultrasonic cleaner. I have a cleaner
concentrate specialized for cleaning firearms and I've used it on
blue and nickel guns with no problems but I'm unsure if it will harm
what is left of the silver (and gold on the hammer). I worry that
mechanical cleaning (using solvent and a tooth brush) may remove
some of the gold wash (I can see it is beginning to flake in places).
Any ideas?

The cavity in the frame where the hammer resides is really filthy.
See Pics.

Cheers!
